Thats ****** ridiculous.

cant see anything wrong to be honest

at such a critical moment, there is no time to think how much is excessive when the guy hit the intruder with a bat D:

Didn't even read it, saw it said Daily Mail and switched off........

Sloth/Mod

They did chase one down the street...........beat him up so bad that the cricket bat was broken and leave him with brain damage so i think he deserved to go to jail. It wasn't self defence at that point.....just plain old battery.

The gang deserved to go down to though but hey ho.

Nothing New at all

To be fair he didn't JUST protect his family he went too far

Put yourself in the homeowners shoes, what would you do?
Because i know what my husband would do and the intruder would probably not be alive now.

I wanted to post this earlier, totally agree that there's no justice. He protected his home, possessions and family and yet he's the one getting punished! So next time I should just let someone robbed me without resisting?

They were running away? He didn't 'protect' anything, he'd already won at that point:thinking:

Have you read the article? They had already fled the home and he gave chase and beat him with a cricket bat............was nothing to defend at that point.

He was more concerned with revenge than protecting his family otherwise he would have stayed with them.

They had run away he chased them down...may I add leaving his family alone! and beat him so bad he gave him permanent brain damage, what exactly was he protecting when he did that?

And you would quite rightly be getting a V.O to see your husband in the big house.
How would he protect his family from there?

He doesn't, he has 2 shotguns.....

If he didnt do that the thug could have come back tooled up and got his revenge, so I think the bloke was 1000% in the right...at the end of the day though if there's one thing to go down for and be proud, it would be this

Who?

I think you need to remember that when you go through an ordeal like that you will inevitably lose your mind, and not think straight. The homeowner was provoked big time, and the offender was responsible for that. It's also worth remembering that the offender has a history of crime, whereas Munir has a clean record, and is a family man. Although I do believe Munir should indeed have been jailed, I think 30 months is too much. I believe the offender should have been jailed for that period of time, and Munir should have received no more than a year. Thats just my opinion anyway.

you dont smash someones head in because they tried to rob you, at the time they did this their family was safe, this wasnt done to protect anyone, and he derved the sentance

And your hubby would be serving a life sentence - and not for protecting you, which would have done noone any good. That guys family were not at risk, the intruders had run off. It wasn't reasonable force and it wasn't self -defence. If they had still been in his house then it would have been different.

What he did was plain old self-meted justice and having caused brain damage with a cricket bat to get thirty months (out by summer 2011) I also think he was quite lucky.

I don't understand? What fame and glory? Burglars are the worst scum on earth im not joking, and in fact the 3 thugs should be in jail shouldnt they?

From the article:
"if persons were permitted to take the law into their own hands and inflict their own instant and violent punishment on an apprehended offender rather than letting justice take its course, then the rule of law and our system of criminal justice, which are the hallmarks of a civilised society, would collapse."

Surely with 30 previous offences, plus this one, if "the rule of law" really were the "hallmarks of a civilised society", the idiot fool wouldnt have even been free to commit the terrible crime.

I hope I never ever get brought before a court in my life, in case people like you lot were on the jury...you're an absolute disgrace :x

theres too many "members of the public/ family men" with a built up anger within them , they dream of having a good excuse to beat up/ kill someone

Ok lets look at things from the 'liberal' angle: What about the victims' mental states? The family would be scarred for life, and never feel safe in their home with that idiot criminal running around. Do you think the family would ever leave the house again, and do you think that they would even feel safe in it!?!? Well I bet they feel a lot safer now that there's one less scumbag on the streets.

The brothers should have been given a very symbolic sentence, such as a few hours community service, and the other bloke should have been paraded around the street with a banner above his head saying SCUM!!!
