i'm on o2 broadband. i've had no problems with them and their customer service is very good. all calls answered fairly quickly on a freephone number (landline and o2 mobile) and in the uk.

£5 discount for o2 customers including pay as you go (as long as you top up regularly (not sure terms on this as i vaguely read a post someone posted a while back).

all in all o2 recommended by me plus £25 quidco.

i reckon ou get a mobile phone contract over £30 a month with orange and then you can get free router and 8Mb unlimited usage and all this costs is £5.00 + ur phone contract, but as most ppl use a phone it not an extra cost maybe just a cost from a different company.

    How about Tiscali ?
Up to 8MB (Depending on what the max your area can deal with ) / Unlimited downloading / includes free line rental ( so no more BT) & 24/7 free calls to landlines (not 08 no.'s)
    £19.99 pcm

Tiscali, TalkTalk and Virgin aren't unlimited and the AOL deal works out at about £20 more expensive then just buying the laptop and a comparable broadband package seperately.

Be unlimited is apparently very good (O2 use the same network ) but they're only availible in some parts of the country.

I'm on SKY, £10 a month for their MAX service (no limits or throttling) very reliable, just works. Also includes free wireless broadband router

virgin is unlimited downloads as i have it and download at least 40gb a month. Tracey its depends if you have a virgin line if u want virgin also 02 has unlimited downloads/usage whereas tisicali has a fair usage policy

Virgin (cable) cuts your speed to a quarter or less if you download more than a few hundred megabytes during peak times: allyours.virginmedia.com/htm…tml
Virgin ADSL seems to be even more draconian:
    virgin.net/all…tml
    Hardly what I'd called unlimited.

Tiscali either seem to be throttling or are having some big capacity problems:

It depends on you broadband package mate also i have 20mb broadband and have never suffered speed decrease at anytime. What people have to remeber about tiscali talktalk o2 etc is they all use a bt line which isn't in there direct control. the reason 02 has great stuff is cause before it became 02 it was bt cellent so i beleive there proberly good relations between them

Assuming you mean virgin's cable 20mbps then you probably haven't used it enough to trip the restrictions, but the OP was asking for unlimited broadband and virgin's has those limitations.

The reason BE/O2 have such great speeds is not because of shady buisness deals with BT, it's because they use their own network part of the way and the newer ADSL2+ technology.

Yes? Why does that contradict what I've been saying? I'm saying virgin specifically state that they have speed limitations in place if you download more than a certain amount at certain times (see the link I posted for details). I never said that they cap your total download amount or that virgin were no good for downloading. Maybe my first post wasn't as helpful as it could have been but I can't see why you're accusing me of not reading.

So you don't think the restrictions are actually enforced? That's good to know.
