Not sure about other providers but I know Virgin are about to bump all their broadband speeds up for free.

All other isp require a bt landline. Unless you get a 3g isp.

I have just looked on the Orange website, and dont mention anything about a BT phoneline?

You wont be able to get adsl without changing phoneline.

    From that orange page.
    You also need:

    * a home phone line (excluding Kingston Communications and cable)

True, it doesnt say anything about bt, but it says you cant use cable.

All broadband providers have to use bt as they have the majority as there lines are installed everywhere. Whereas with virgin people only get it if they have been given authorasion to install there lines. Even virgin uses bt lines in non-cable areas

Thats for their bb service. But if you have a vm phoneline, then you cant get any other bb as you will need a bt phoneline.

if you have a mobile contract with orange you can get broadband for £5 as I am in the process of getting!
we currently pay £15 a month... that's all I know!

The contract with Orange has to be an 18 month contract to qualify

EDIT or a 24 month contract.....

( I also think it has to be £30 or more a month that you are paying, but this may have changed... )

As someone correctly said, VM telephone lines aren't able to carry an ADSL service. You'll need a copper based phone line provided over the BT network to get ADSL from any company.

i'm only £15 a month but they said i can get it... i did have to pester them a wee bit though and said that's the only reason i took my contract out...

levis24 mate you will not be able to change providers if you don't want to use a bt line as virgin doesn't lend its lines to other providers. Plus its phone/broadbandf lines are fdibre optic whereas bt's are copper based lines. So if you don't want a bt line then sorry mate you are stuck with virgin
