    Broadband Deals and Comparisons

    Hi all,

I was looking for broadband deals and feedbacks. It seems that almost all of them require contracts and there are some really bad ISPs and don’t want to get stuck with one.

What I am looking for is minimum 40GB per month and minimum of 1Mb/sec speed.

I live in West London and I can get BT, Orange, Virgin, AOL, TalkTalk, Tiscali, and Pipex. I was going with the TalkTalk deal, 21£ with phone line rental included, unlimited international and local calls as well as 8Mb/sec and 40GB limit. But, I was reading about their horrible broadband service and how they block the ports for chatting, online games and download. So I did some comparison and it seems that Tiscali provides what I want. With Tiscali I could get a good deal (2Mb/sec unlimited access) for around 15£ + 11£ line rental from BT and the reviews seems to be OK except for the part where they give you hard time if you want to quit.

BT internet seems to be safe and reliable, but as I understood from them, the service is 23£ first 3 months and 26£ after + I have to pay 11£ for line rental and they don’t do a combined line rental + Internet discount.

Please let me know any good deals or if you have any feedback about your service. Also please let us know your area because the services vary from basid on where you are in the UK.

    Thank You

    Hi
This is who I'm with and have been for a 2 years now. Customer service is ace and it covers all the bases I want/need. I'm with Talktalk for the phone part of our service and it works out very cheap.

Have you considerd Sky? If you already have a Sky Package you could get the sort of package upto 40gb usage and upto 8meg depending on line length and line quality (copper/ali). You'd have to pay £20 activation but for about £23 quid a month (what you pay some providers) you'd get broadband plus digitial TV. Obviously BT line rental is payable on top of that.
They also offer a UPTO 16meg service for £10 a month with free activation, they all come with a free wireless router.

I think that the checker is not very very accurate though as there are a couple more providers available that arent listed

From what I've read and heard, sky don't plock ports (like talk talk) or shape traffic in anyway. They actually seem to be rolling out the service very well.
I'm just on amonth to month rolling contract with BT and will more than likely move to sky when my exchange is fully unbundled.

I used the checker as a refference, it is obviously an agency and so you have to pay to be listed.

I have couple question, what do you use it for? (browing, downloading, play games online...etc). Just to be clean on the BT line rental, the BT Line rental is included in the TV/Broadband package for £24 or not?

I am still confused about the "who pays for the BT line rental" part, so please explain it to me like a 5 yr old child

Amino? Why are you switching from Tiscali?

In most instances line rental is still paid to BT.

Thanks for that steve - very useful. I'm moving house soon, so will be doing a bit of research myself.
