Thanks - trying to get input from other members as I was suggesting unlimited to my folks but there's a budget issue and I haven't dealt with broadband providers in a while (generally a solution has already been in place for the digs that I've rented over the years).

Cheers for that, I'll check that out in a tick.

I don't think they'll be doing that!
I'm not a heavy user but 10gb would not be enough for me.
What kind of budget? once you discount BT and any sort of 3g broadband, there are a range of affordable unlimited solutions. Are they in one of the few areas that still isn't unbundled? Talktalk is about threepence ha'penny when you take their phone line.

Finger in the air figures:
Movie in SD: 1GB /hour

Very limited - BT was being considered as they have a landline already; I'll look into TalkTalk further as well. Cheers

10GIG lasts me about half a day.

Oh christ, that's not what I wanted to hear! X) lol
this will tell you who offers what in their area samknows.com/bro…ker anyone who has their exchange unbundled will probably offer the best deals, particularly if they allow you to switch your phone service over. Also don't forget about quidco / TCB talktalk are doing £70 at the moment it looks like, O2 are offering £30, sky are offering £50 (on their unlimited service) etc.

Me too, just don't do it.
No we used to have this limit when we were on bt. We found it meant we could only stream 2 movies a month with standard browsing as well. Nowadays you need unlimited.
If you can get sky its cheap for unlimited and only costs £7.50 pm if you have their phone line rental.

Thanks for that, I had a feeling that would be the case TBH

No probs and thanks for that.
Another option would be PlusNet as they have plans that either give you 10gb and another that gives you 60gb which is what I have gone for!
25gb
35gb
43gb

were the last 3 months of my internet usage going from my account and ive barely downloaded much at all, couple of movies here and there and a few podacsts, mixes etc

i should cut it down because im currently paying $79 a month for unlimited acces

this is in australia btw its expensive 4g mobile bb no contract
At least 40gb a week and I consider myself a low volume user.
I tend to use it after 10pm though.

Maybe the OP could let us know his budget so that we might suggest a suitable provider ?

We've managed to get a deal sorted out and it's going to be BT Infinity - only catch is the lead-time to get it installed!
hey scotty, it's getting pretty cold and miserable down south now.
what's it like in aberdeen? antartica?
Not near enough in my opinion unless you only browse the net
I'm 49
been on the tinternet for say 22 years
started off www thing over a phone line

In fact ive been drinking so I cant answer this.

I'm moving to a new build house so NO Virgin media. Ive decided not to get a phone line nor fancy TV.
its freeview for me and internet access from my phone.

Im going to potter in my new garden for 10 year till Virgin media are allowed to rip up the streets.

Tae be honest it might get me off the drink as well . GOOD BYE WWW lol
Wouldn't do me apparently.....

Session Time 6days 9h:4m:47s
Session Data Downloaded 73GB 43MB
Session Data Uploaded 26GB 643MB
It depends on what you are going to be downloading in the future I guess. I have a sabnzb/Sickbeard/Couchpotato setup, the reporting from sabnzb shows:

647 M Today 39.3 G This week 458.9 G This month

I'd say a 10gig limit is useless considering the price difference to an unlimited plan

The 40GB limit will be enough for my folks, as it's just basic web browsing for them with the occasional video calls via Skype.

I'm hoping that 40GB will be enough and if not I'll get it upgraded for them...I'm paying for it anyway.
