    Broadband Speed really poor!

    Hi All,

My broadband speed is really poor, I have done a speed check and it struggles to complete the test. The best result is 352 kbps.
My laptop running on the same connection seems fine. Can something cause this to happen in the computer?
Thanks for any help and advice on this,

    Mike.

Yes, Could it be a virus that I have picked up? The laptop on the same connection is giving results over 6kbps.

I would be interested in this also, as i have the same problem.

Laptop gets 7000-8000, PC upstairs gets 320. Same connection, xbox live works fine, can stream to my WDTV no problem

go to start and select run

    type in cmd

then type netstat -a and see how many are listed on the laptop that runs well

then check the pc, if theres a massive difference you have got some crap on the machine you need to get rid of

run malware anti malware bytes an seee if ths fixes the probs....also go through your control panel, add remove programmes, see if theres anything that doesnt look right and shouldnt be there (assuning you are computer literate enough) and remove it

do a restart and that should help

note google toolbar, and any other toolbars slow down your connection, any messenger software you dont use remove,

    that should help.

Also if you have windows defender run that, before you run defender go to windows update and check you have all the latest updates first then run as it will update defender with latest defnition files if yours are out of date

    also who is your isp?

I take it the affected computer is on a wireless connection? Could be down to signal loss possibly?

No its not on a wireless connection.

My laptop is wireless, PC (which is the problem one) is a homeplug, as is the WDTV and xbox (via a switch) and the xbox upstairs, which are all fine

I have tried that, there are 14 entries on the PC and 35 on the laptop.

    Trying the malware thing now

Well there's obviously nothing wrong with your broadband if another computer connected to it works fine.

And it seems unlikely that there's anything wrong with the connection if you're using a standard ethernet cable.

I would run several speed tests and see if they all give similar results to make sure it's not just down to a bad flash runtime or whatever your initial speed test used:
