    Broadband telephone filters

We keep losing our broadband connection for short periods and our provider says it may be to do with the quality of our filters. Is this true?? and if it is can anyone tell me what are good quality ones and where I can get them? Thanks

I had similar problems with my broadband so swapped out my filter and it fixed it a treat, my phone was crackling before the change also but that stopped once I had swapped the filter, dont know if it is affecting your phone line as well?
    this is what I have

    hope this helps

I have one at home - still boxed if you want it?

Surely your provider..ahem provides you with the kit?

Why wont the tight @rses send you some more!?

    Give em hell!!!!

Might be worth removing the ring wire if that connected on your main box as well.

My bruv has the same problem. receives VM internet via a bt phone line and can hardly ever get connected. VM say its to do with filters (?) and to go to pc world and hang up on him.

Any guide to how he can get this fixed? thx

will VM not provide a new filter then if thats what they say is the problem, surely as they provided them in the first place it is there responsibility as a "Service Provider" to ensure that you have the appropriate kit to recieve the service from them?

You can pick up ADSL filters for about £2 from dixons etc, they're not exactly expensive.
Remember you need a filter on every phone line cable, not just the one on your broadband.

Yes, our phone line is very crackly, we got the filters free when we first got broadband but have switched providers since so can't really demand new ones! Looks like it may be worth spending at bit and getting something decent. Thanks for the help

    Thanks a lot

    No prob

Have you thought about changing the faceplate? It filters out the voice signal from the data signal so does away with having filters on each phone. I did this a week ago and it has improved my broadband speed by about 30%!! It's pretty simple to fit and only takes a few minutes.

]This is the faceplate I bought.

If you have a crackle on the line it's likely to be an external fault, which could cuase your broadband service to become unstable. If you have more of a loud hissing that could be a filter. You need a filter in every IN USE socket, if you have a socket but nothing plugged into it you do not require a filter. Filtered face plates are good but they need to fitted at the master socket, so if you use an extension socket to plug in your router they ain't much good as having a line double filtered can also cause problems. Have you tried taking off the faceplate of your NTE5 like this http://www.readman.dsl.pipex.com/other/UKphonecatwiring_files/image012.jpg.
Plug your phone/adsl into the socket behind, (this eliminates all extension wiring in the house) if the problem persists (noise drop outs) it's likely to be a network fault. Ring your service provider.

    No worries mate.

    Probably not the case here, but at this time of the year people should always know about things like this;
