I would take it back to argos. I bought a cd player once and put it away for a xmas present. When it was opened it didnt work and even though i had bought it a couple of months before hand i still got it replaced

How did you pay for it, and can you remember a rough date? I had a problem with a Ds (bought from gamestation) I bought a year or so back lost the reciept but as I apid for it on debit card my bank statement knew the exact date and time of the transaction, they weren't over chuffed lloking for the transaction but they did

    Are they still in stock??
If so, buy another one with cash and return the broken one in it's box as an unwanted gift.

Instead of doing that, why not go into store, with the item, if its still boxed, with the catologue number on there, they will replace the item. **They will only so this if the item is boxed with a cat number on the box

How was the item paid for?, if it was paid by card, take a statment into store.

A few of the dvd players in argos are excluded from the money back guarantee so you may not be able to take it back as an unwanted gift, it would go back into good stock, and be sold to someone else, what if it was purchased by a elderly person who wouldnt like bring it back etc, its just not right - please dont do that.

If you do what he is suggesting the least you can do is say its faulty when you take it back!

i took my DVD player back on saturday, I bought it about 8 months ago, but they still gave me a gift card for the amount I paid, they couldnt even find the details of it on their system but I explained that I saw it on line reduced to 14.99 and they gave me a gift card for that amount. cant see it being a problem if you've only had it 2 months.
    hope this helps x

I'd do what Russ66 suggested above (BUT use a different store to buy & return)...................buy another one with cash and return the broken one in it's box as an unwanted gift.

WHY would people suggest to do that?

Like I said if you purchase another one, take the old dvd back in the new box, and say its FAULTY - Not an unwanted gift.

Imagine an elderly person purchasing the faulty dvd player (because obviously - if you say its an unwanted gift it will be put back into good saleable stock) - some people wouldnt bring it back, or it could be given to someone as a gift etc. Its just not right to say its a unwanted gift, and I cant believe people on here are actually suggesting that to you, with no respect for the next person who purchases that dvd player!

At the end of the day, purchase another one, take the faulty one into store with the new receipt, and say its faulty, that way it will go into damages, and you will get a refund.

Have to agree with Bryan on this one.

bryan u r truly rep worthy!

buy a new one with cash, swop them over, return the old one as faulty, BUT, first make sure you reserve all the stock they have at the store you are returning to. this way you will get your refund and a working dvd player.

    shhhhh

Aww thanks magicbeans, and shibi din, I just feel really strongly that it wouldnt be right to say its unwanted, people need to just think about their actions and respect others more, I respect people too much to be able to ever do what was being suggested here, because you dont know who will but that item next.

The great thing about argos, is that they dont force you to have a replacement, in this instance, the customer returning the dvd player can just say I dont really want another one, I would rather my money back. They have to honour that decision within 30 days.

But standing there and saying you just want a replacement and looking peturbed when they say there's no stock is just easier than getting a bad tempered member of staff... lol

They should take it back I once bought a toy for my little boy for Xmas and when he opened it it didn't work they took it no problem. If you bought it on a card you can take a bank statement and they will definitely take it back good luck

hi i once had problems with argos about returning an item without a receipt, and at a wedding i was speaking to someone from citizens advise and they said if a product is faulty you do not need to have the receipt as i had already bought another one and took the faulty one back i didn't get the opportunity to try this but good luck,

i had a32in flat screen tv just short of 12 months it started going wrong .rang up custermer services they picked it up refunded my money . no problems
