Broken optical drive in my laptop, need an external one

Found 27th Dec 2006

My laptop's disc drive is broken, and a replacement drive would be very pricey, so I'm looking for an external (USB 2.0) drive - I don't have a FireWire port so it's got to be USB.

I've seen ]this one from Dabs.com for £50.84 inc P&P, but I'm sure there must be cheaper ones around.
It'd be good if it could write DVDs but it's not really essential.

In case the link doesn't work it's from
quickcode: 4238PN

Thanks very much, I hope you all have a great New Year!

Here's one from Scan: ]http//ww…798 £34.33 + £7.03 P&P - Total £41.36. They also have one @ £31.37 ]http//ww…576, which would be £38.40 but there is no picture of it.
Used Scan for years, very competitive and reliable. If you live near Bolton you can collect and save the P&P!!!!

Quick update they have the £31.37 model on their today only page ]http//ww…ly/. (just press control and F, then search for BTC 2016UI). If you order before 1st January 2007 you will get this for £29.67, saving £1.70.

Thanks for that, I've already searched this forum (and others) thoroughly (aswell as Pricerunner, Froogle etc) but couldn't find any good deals (and no-one seems to have ever requested/posted a deal relating to one of these on HUKD before.
Or this usb combo drive for under £20 if they have stock near you.

Aldi have them in many of their shops at the moment for £40 on clearance.
