I've just had an email saying mines going up.
anyone argued this point with BT or can they do whatever they think they want.
    really angry.

For what it's worth, I am enjoying Sky. However line rental has just gone up with them too.

it's the principle. I have just rang BT who said I can cancel but will still owe them for the router £200 odd pound. absolute rip off

I phoned BT and said I wanted to cancel after the price hike, and they reduced my bill from £50 to £35 without any changes to what I receive. Worth a phone call

Virgin do a fibre only line for around £22 a month when I last checked. 50m/b and unlimited downloads.

that would be great but cannot have virgin . grrrrr
any cheaper phone and fibre out there.
just the underhand way they say that if I cancel I can free of charge but I would be charged for the router. time all this was stopped

Price wise I think you would be looking at TalkTalk and Vodafone.

hmmmm . I used BT for 30 years, then they gave me sou much grief I changed . after some years I decided to give them another chance. never again after this is how they dupe people lol.
they even quoted me the small terms and conditions etc lol . they expect everyone to read them before saying yes?
and even if you pointed that out before signing up they would say. " oh we won't do that". lol.
absolute bunch of fffffing rip off merchants.
seems to be the way of the world now,,, easier to con someone than work for it .... smart ar£es
time the government stopped all this.

I have just found out that in 6 months we will be having virgin installed so another choice.
wonder if I will be saying the same thing about virgin in 12 months time lol

l wonder if everyone cancelled BT and said sue us, what would BT do? sue everyone, hmmm , wouldn't it be nice to have the boot on the other foot though he he

That's pretty underhand. How does the router cost £200? I'm with Plusnet, and had a few small rises over the years but the service is pretty good. Not sure how it compares with other providers, but I look for the quality of the customer service and the connection -both of which have been faultless (apart from an openreach engineer falling to tighten a connection in a junction box, causing heavy vehicles to vibrate the connection and interior the service. That took ten minutes to diagnose and a decent openreach engineer one minute to fix).
Can you not buy a new, unused one on ebay and return it saying you used your own?
    Just a (stupid) idea?

Say they can have it back? People on MSE are claiming that they will waive the equipment charge if you say you're leaving due to the price increase.

Just checked on broadbandchoices.co.uk and apparently you can leave without penalty if the price rise is greater than the rate of inflation. There is a body that said with disputes called ADR I think.

Just had a look at my offers on BT and been offered Infinity 2 for £33.49 a month which includes line rental for 18 months.

The router's ownership status, its specific value and obligation for the customer to pay the specific value under certain conditions is stated within the terms and conditions that the customer chooses to accept when signing-up for the contract.
Current t&c / Tariff Guide at Feb 2017 values the hub at "Up to £65 (Depending on model supplied)" and is ususally waived after 12m of service.

I can't find that, do you have a link please?

I had the email too, but when I actually read it in detail it states that the price will go up once my discount ends in December, might be worth re checking the email

Actually I'm not so sure, it states that in April the price will go up by 2.50 but then below that, it's says that my discount ends in December and I'll be put on the standard rate

I think you're on the same deal as me from the sounds of it. The standard deal is when the 12 months are up for the line rental saver. So £2.50 a month more now, then jumping to (for me) £47.49 a month in November.

we pay £60 a month to BT for unlimited broadband & line rental, with BT sport which sometimes works. Never make any phone calls, ever. Rip off but no idea what alternative is.

try uswitch and compare, if you have virgin it will be the best as long as your area isnt oversubscribed, we have unlimted and speeds of 150Mb with them for £23 broadband only.

Yeah it says that mine will go up by 2.50, then revert to 47.50 in December which is the standard rate, and is 2.50 more than at present, so my percentage increase is actually higher than someone on the standard rate! I'm giving them a call!

I have a mobile contract with them which has a £5 discount as I'm a broadband customer, am I entitled to cancel that as well? Or will I be tied to that with 5 pounds extra to pay? Wouldn't be worth cancelling it for the sake of £2.50 if it's going to cause the mobile contract to rise by £5?
