    BT Line Activation

    Howdy, Just a little dilemna I have that someone might be able to help me with;

    I have just moved house and am considering signing up to Tiscali's broadband package which includes free line rental. My question is; in order to do this do I need to have a live BT line (which would incur an activation charge and a minimum contract period of 12 months) or could Tiscali activate the line?

    This is where I'm getting confused; on the Tiscali website it has broadband comparison chart and explicitly says 'Line Rental' and compares their price against BT, among others, call charges are seperate. It says that in order to receive the service a BT line is required - it doesn't say whether the line has to be active or not.

    when i was with tiscali i payed line rental to bt and had my broadband and calls with tiscali

    you must have bt line to take tiscali. if you dont have bt line first you have join with bt for 12 month.bt they dont activate if dont join with them. if you cancel bt thry charge you £70.00

    so you can have line rental now with tiscali but if you have no bt at present you need to be with them for 12 months first as said by mayura

    They will charge you a £30 set up charge and then £14.99 a month (£9.99 for first three months) including what would be your BT line rental and broadband. 12 month contract. Openreach will come and activate the line, you don't need to pay the normal BT charge of ~£125.

    i agree. just moved into a new flat. previous tenants had a phone line. rang bt the wanted £125???? their is 2 phone lines in the flat thats 30 years old and bt wanted £125 for a new connection. Its a shame as i planned to go with o2 and did not ever think it would be a problem.

    rang tiscali and £30 startup included £30 router and £9.99 3 months £14.99 after.

    so £194.88 for a years phone and internet with tiscali. or £256.99 for bt phone line for a year.

    If i owned the flat and planned to live longer than a year i would of gone for bt.

    Called BT about a week ago, booked up to have new line fitted. The lady asked me if i had Virgin. Stated i did have (at my old house and gave her that number) and she said this would be fine, to just let them know this when they rang me back to book up the appt. Another lady rang me to book up and she was adamant that had to have an active virgin number to port over to get the reduction on the installation fee. . "
