Received a letter about the increased charges for line rental up a extra 50p a month as from 1st october.
i called to cancel the contract due to them changing the terms and conditions at which point the customer advisor offered me £36.00 credit on my account if i continued with my contract.
call 0800 432 0783 and choose to cancel your phone contract

when is your actual contract ends ?

Lol, known my luck they tell me to leave X)

Does this include people still within their contract? I.e. is it in BT terms to allow you to cancel before the contract is up due to a 50p increase?

....and a lot of times they might just say, "ok, your contract is cancelled" - then what?

Went to transfer to talk-talk, but BT said they will match the price (£6.99 for internet) for 12 months - so stayed with BT. Plus they threw in free evening and weekend calls.

I took 18 months contract ,and about six month later i call them to add anytime plane now my 18 month is over but could not cancel my contract they says the contract was renewed at the time I add anytime service so i have to wait another 6 months!!!

you can cancel at any length of contract of they change there terms, i have 9 months left so they offered me a equivalent of £4 a month off my contract by giving me this credit

I moved to the post office. saved a bundle with free calls in the evening during the week and free calls to landline and mobiles at the weekend. Their line rental is cheaper as well. I moved my broadband as well and am saving about £110-120 a year

Sky sent me a email to say my bill is going up by 1.00 but after speaking to virgin to change for the 50mb broadband, I know why I left them, so wont be changing. virgin are a nightmare.

I think it might have to do with putting up prices for fibre optic bb, as there was talks about this some time ago

Oh also got a full max pack with sky, and its only 71.00 per month, 13mb bb and unlimited local number calls and 0845 numbers, and hd ect... so not to bad

£71.00 per month?! lol your getting ripped off there arent you? i have the full sky hd inc sports, unlimited broadband and sky talk and i pay £28.50 for the first 6 months and £33.50 after that

Just to clarify can you cancel due to this even if still in contract?

I've been considering changing to O2 but BT renewed my contract when I moved last year so couldn't cancel it, this might be a get out clause! Although if they offer me a better deal I would consider staying!

Oops, just re-read the thread and the op clarified already! Sorry!

Yeah this would be a great get out do I could move to O2 as well. BB is with them. I wonder how seamless it would be. I take it if you persue a cancellation then BT will want 30 days? So I would need O2 to take on the line by the end of that or my BB would go dead??

Would agree since I moved to the post office I have not had a bill more than £13 a month.

Very seamless, we transferred 4 days ago after ringing 02 a week before no downtime, only reason I knew was because I had a text telling me, the downloads that was queing at the time never got interrupted either.

So we only had 7 days notice to BT to end the contract

Then you move to a decent telephone supplier like IDNet, far better service, 30 day contract and unlike 02, no caller display charge.

Thanks will give this a try.

Many thanks OP! Got £36 discount and they gave me evening calls free also at no extra cost.

Ty OP just rang them now as I've just had the email through stating the increase!!!

One thing to note tho I dont know if it was the lady I spoke to (tho she was helpful and pleasant) she only mentioned two retention deals when I said I wanted to leave.....

1: £3.00 off p/m = £36.00 12 months
2: linesaver pay 113.88 for 12 months in advance, equivalent to £9.49 a month.

Having just weekend inclusive calls on my account I said that still if I were to swtich all the other companies were offering eve & w/ends and still would be cheaper!!!

I then got "oh no that included at no addtional cost for the next 12 months." So you may need to nudge the member of staff into this way of thinking ;o)

So top and bottom of it is I got £36.00 credit and free evening and weekends on top. So I'm happy for the time being :o)
