    BT Master Socket Problems?

my internet stopped working and i couldnt get a dial on my house phone, i rang bt did some checks couldnt find anything told be to try the test socket on the master socket and they would ring later, so i tried it and worked fine, so question is what happens now? does that socket need replacing? can i continue to use the test socket? also theres like 3 loose wires and the font face flate has like 4 wire terminals, are any of those wires meant to go in there?

    any help appricated, thanks.

I wouldnt touch the socket as if you do any damage to it you will get the bill from BT

Just wait for BT to ring back, hope you got a timescale, and if not just ring them back and ask what happens next as from what you describe it prob needs an engineer

Just use the master socket dude, thats what i do with mine, less chance of interference bad connections etc.

You could have a fault on your internal wiring, when you too the faceplate off, did you see if any wires where connected to it?

I'm not sure eaxctly what it is your saying, if you have plugged a phone into the master BT socket and the line is working fine then BT will charge you for coming out as they have proved the line into your premesis. If the line which is not working is an extension from the master socket then you are responsible for this - if you dont know how to re-wire an extension socket my advice would be either 1. just use the master socket, or 2. buy a cheap extension cable (similar to a power extension cable) from somewhere like Argos so that you can run the extension to a more convienient location as this would be much cheaper than the cost of a chargeable BT visit.

But DIY cables aren't usually over clever for ADSL as they are not twisted pairs. Your right in everything else you say. If it's just your faceplate (the bit you took off) I'll send you one
