I'm looking at getting one (three) of the BT home wifi discs. I currently have my router in the hallway, with an ethernet going into a powerline adapter. Then I have a powerline adapter in my office, Dining room and living room. Each of these go into switches, which have various items attached (sky box, hue bridge, xbox etc. etc,). Then I use wifi mainly for phones and tablets.

I had a google wifi mesh, which had two ethernet ports, so I could plug the router into one, and then the powerline adapter into the other. The BT discs only have one ethernet port, so how would I be able to do this?

Thanks!

If you tested your speed on your devices connected to the power line adapters, you are probably losing half your speed. Unless you live in a mansion 3 discs should be perfectly fine for full WiFi coverage. Also your switches are just there to increase the amount of ethernet ports, so will work perfectly fine connected to the discs.

    Oh. My. God.

I've installed the discs as you said, and it's blown my mind. I was forever having problems connecting to my shield and transferring media to it, running a cable across my house worked 50% of the time, and was super fast. Using a powerline worked more often, but was hella slow. I've just done it over wifi and it's reasonably quick, and just worked.

Why didn't I buy these ages ago?!?!

Power line adapters will lose huge amounts of speed, nowadays they are not needed. You can just use the discs for the mesh WiFi network, then you connect your switches in the Ethernet port on the back of the discs. This will allow you to continue hard wiring all your devices for a more stable connection, and give you a better WiFi coverage/speed throughout. (edited)

but surely some older devices that cant utilize the better wifi technologies i.e wifi 6, would outperform using a powerline adapter than some of the lesser wifi frequencies?

Haha, I have 6 in use. 2 of them are mainly for a point to point though to the garden office in fairness.

I hard wired a sky q mini into one and it works perfectly. Powerlines were intermittent with it dropping out all the time but the BT wifi discs made it a lot better.

I now have a drawer full of powerlines.
Ive also been slowly installing cat5 around the house too where I can. (edited)
