    Bus fair rise

    Banned
Thought I'd give public transport a go today. Partner had an very early start in the car and I couldn't be bothered to cycle.
Last time I used the bus was a month ago and it cost £2.55 to my destination.
Today, it was £2.65. There was a notice at the front of the bus saying "bus fairs to rise on April 17th" but there was no mention of by how much.

Point is, a few of the old chaps getting on the bus (who's bus passes aren't valid until after 9.30 I later found out) didn't have enough so some other passengers on the bus had to share a few coppers to help them out.

    Aren't old people stupid!...

...No, that's not the point. The point is that I would have thought it would have been better for the bus company to let people know what the rise would be rather than just saying there would be a rise?

Legally, I wonder where they stand in terms of people not being able to afford the bus due to no prior notice of the actual increase?

Our buses usually put up a sign with the price increases, our all day tickets have went from £3.75 to £4.00 on the 3rd April.

£3.20 for an all day ticket in Nottingham. Why does everything increase in price yet our wages stay the same (or even worse drop).

10% every year for London transport

Old people aren't stupid but very savvy if people on the bus coughed up (_;)

They should stay at home until the commuting period is over lol

well you learn something new everyday ..........i thought bus passes for oap,s were for anytime , anyday .....didnt realise there was a time restriction !

And you're just a character on a forum. Not as good as Bauer granted, but a character all the same.

Decided to try out the Mango card who Trent Barton use....
Student one - 35% off fares.

Got me from Town to Arnold for £1.04 on an adult fare! Bloody bargain (esp if only using there and back).

    buses are for peasants!

The local buses here put up their prices about year ago, but they didn`t bother telling their own drivers for the first week. I think most of the drivers found out from the passengers.

This is the same company that changed all their bus times a couple of years ago, but didn`t print any new timetables till after the changes. And they didn`t update their website, either. That was fun.

Never understood why in some of the areas I have lived its far cheaper or around same to get a train than the bus obv in some cases the service is subsidised but still.

My home town is bad though at last check it was £2.50 single to go to parents which is 4 miles away, yet a taxi costs £6(yeah a difference but can be cheap if you share) and the have merged 2 services together so it used to take 15 minutes to get to parents now it takes 45 and the bus is crammed till it gets past the housing estate(which is awful as its a bus for local villages so people from the villages miss the bus as the estate people who have 4 buses a hour dont want to wait!)

Anyway blah blah blah back to the prices

Its like £9.25 for a return on bus from Glasgow to Ayr and about £8 by train(or less with railcard)

Kilmarnock is like £8.50 return on bus or like £3.60 on train(or £2.40 with railcard)

It costs £3.60 at last check for a bus to local retail park but a unlimted day ticket is £3! Its a bit silly.
