    Butlins..your experiences please

whats it like? am thinking of going with kids and hubby (kids = 6 and almost 3).

We have been to centre parcs and i loved it there.... but as im preggers its gonna be tough with the long walking (weak pelvis in pregnancy for me!) and defo not allowed to cycle.

a friend has recently visited the bognor one (nearest me) and said it was good especially as everything is nearby but did say it gets a lil boring by the end (we want to go 4 days in october half term) and apparently it is a little chavy (sorry if offensive word). Thing is centre parcs was really nice and chilled out and i really dont wana pay to have a week at a chav kinda place. i wouldnt feel comfy or enjoy myself and would rather spend time at home.

    anyways whats ur experiences/tips? thanks

butlins doesnt really bear comparison with centerparcs-2 completely different experiences.

butlins-entertainment is free if you dont mind cheesy,bingo/karaoke/third rate pub singers etc.

its loud and yes its "chavy"-plenty people like it and Im not knocking it but a quiet relaxing holiday to compare to centerparcs? no way!

have you considered going to centerparcs and getting your OH to hire you a wheelchair? if the only reason not to go is that you cant walk cos of the pregnancy it may be a solution?

Pontins is chavy urgh its just vile!! Butlins seem to be making things more upmarket, with the hotel they have introduced (shorline) and gold class and you can also upgrade where you eat. Kids will love it

I considered going to Butlins in Bognor, despite full well knowing it's very chavvy but young kids will definitely enjoy it because of all the entertainment.

If you're doing it solely for the kids, then definitely do it but if you're hoping to have a great time as well and it's not enough to just see them happy, then the answer is definitely a no.

did u mean butlins is for chavs? i feel its gonna be like that and its gonna be over a grand we gonna spend on something we arent gonna enjoy ...well me esp as i get really uncomfortable. thanks for info though

i wouldnt want to stay in a hotel as with the kids they like having a bit of room and area to feel at home in...hence we do villa holidays only when we go away.

its for the kids yeah....but if ur paying so much u wana feel like its a holiday as well in two minds though as u make a valid point that at least kids will have fun.

we go every year and all 5 of my kids love it there, the pool is fantastic, they have boats to go on around the lake, trampolines, race tracks, bouncy castles,,and its a lovely area too

    Yeah definitely.

I had a really nice holiday sorted out, put loads of research into it for a great time in Turkey with a 5 star all inclusive 2 week holiday with loads of amazing entertainment for only £630 with 2 bedroom villa for the 4 of us, whereas the next lowest price was over £1500.

It didn't happen but what can you do.

I would suggest booking something comfortably in advance or literally last second to get a good deal.

Like I said, if you can tolerate it for the sake of the kids, then you'll have fun but if you can't get your head around that, you'll completely hate it if you can't join in.

I'm a big kid, so even though that's not the kinda place I'd wanna go, I'd do it for the kids and would join in with everything, so I'd make it fun for everyone, even myself. lol

yikes and i dislike karokes and fair grounds!! boring old me.... was reading trip advisor and people (even those who love it ) mention how it quite nosiy outside apartments etc. whereas CP was so nice and relaxed. im thinking i dont wana go actually...i can imagine myself on the first night feeling like o my days i have 3 more nights here!! gonna give it a miss and maybe see if there is any shows or something to take kids to see?

Butlins is for people who live on benefits

That is the main target audience unfortunately, which is why it's chavvy.

The thing that surprises me though is actually costs quite a lot in comparison to amazing locations in Turkey or Spain, yet it's rubbish in comparison, how's that possible? :?

Butlins isn't cheap but I guess no one told these people what you can get abroad.

I went to a 5* hotel with beach view balcony on a private beach in Turkey on a half board basis for a week costing only £495 for the 3 of us including flights and hotel a couple summers ago.

You don't need much spending money out there either, as everything is dirt cheap and there's a lot to do or you could just soak in the amazing views and play at perfect beaches while relaxing in paradise.

That's the best holiday I've had so far and was hoping to top it this year.

I think Butlins would of cost more than that and wouldn't of been quite as nice.

    +1
lots of people are on benefits for various reasons,we get tax credits as only my partner works at the mo and my mum who has worked all her life due to cancer and arthiritis has had to give up work and now has benefits,it does not make us bad people or mean we have unruly children

wish we could afford to go to butlins but we have to take our children out of school and go of peak its the only way we can afford a holiday dont know what idea u have of benefits in ur head to say butlins is for people on benefits...they are not cheap

When my youngest was a baby I took the three younger ones to Bognor just before christmas. It cost about £800 for the four of us, maybe 3/4 yrs ago.

I got the most *awful* food poisoning and was so relieved to go home.

The baby loved the big bear and all the christmas decorations and the younger daughter was fine and happy to join in the activities. My elder daughter thought that me taking her to Butlines meant I was committing social suicide or summin for her and she spent the entire time on a black cloud of moodiness.

I'd say if your kiddies are under 8 or so, they'll love it. If you have any "sensitive" ones like I do, beware the stigma.

well said, especially when we have been in the worst economic state for a very long time:)

we could never afford to go abroad when i was a kid and i think the most luxurious holiday we ever had was on the norfolk broads on a boat for 2 weeks, other than that it was a static caravan in scarboro, bridlington or whitby.

Got an excellent deal (because our Easter holiday in Wales was a week earlier than England, therefore was classed as off peak) and stayed in a gold self catering appartment. We were happy with our holiday considering what we had paid, there was an excellent swimming pool and the kids enjoyed a lot of the entertainment. If you can get a good deal then it's worth using the place as a base, take advantage of the pool etc but go out an explore the local area and attractions. There isn't really enough there to keep everyone amused for 4 days (unless you like pumping coins into gambling machines with a gormless expression on your face).Do not book anything below gold, some of the accomodation we saw whilst wandering around the park looked rank!

haha well we were defo looking at gold class anyways....but thanks for help. im gonna give it a miss. i think it would only be ok if i could go in a massive goup.
