Buying a Highland Kilt Outfit - Advice required.

Found 11th Dec 2010
Looking to buy my 1st Kilt Outfit & trying to figure best way to do this.

Based in Aberdeen so as you can imagine there are a few shops willing to take my cash around here.

Also been looking online but problem is I'm not sure whats good & whats not.

Any advice appreciated.

should be at least 8 yards of material used and at least 13oz weight-preferably 17 oz for top quality-to get a decent one made will cost you about 3-400 quid m8,but its a lifetime investment. should also be ALL wool, not some synthetic crapola-go to a decent kiltmaker and get properly measured-you wont regret it-you simply cannot buy a properly fitted, properly hanging kilt online-its impossible for anyone to make you a proper one via online measurements.

of course, there are cheaper alternatives, but a kilt deserves quality

Thats the way my mind was going - nothing like a wrinkly old bloke measuring your vitals to know your getting quality.

It is one to last me till I'm wrinkly that I'm after so dont mind paying as long as I'm getting decent value for my dosh.

Popped into 3 shops today & I'm looking at £600 - £800 for an all in package from them.

och aye the noo

lots o shops do the packages bud, but best to get meausured up, get names/stlye/sporran/ etc you like and do it all seperate, these wee shops in town need to make a profit, you would save a fair bit buying from various places.

try SOYKILTS in PORTSOY 50miles north of ABERDEEN very helpful will measure u and make 1 up

like most of these things its cheapest to use the shops to get yourself measured, try on the outfits, decide what you like, it may depends where you're planning on wearing it how formal an outfit you want, then when you have your wishlist, buy the 'bits' online.
This is obviously not fair on the shops who will charge extra but are also charging for they're advice.
There's also the option to buy ex hire items if your really trying to keep the prices down.
