Buying a SSL certificate from a different company from the hosting site

Found 8th Nov 2017
I have a site with Vidahost, basic package (£20 a year) but I have woocommerce so can take payments etc.
I need SSL, Vida want £50 a year
godaddy for instance £3.99

I check with vida and they have an option to install a 3rd party SSL for £23

Do I have to do that or is it easy/can I do it myself?

I got a letsencrypt.org SSL certificate automatically/free via a feature calledAutoSSLintegrated into cPanel on my sharkhosting.co.uk account.

I am in the same boat. I am with vidahost and want to install an ssl but they want £20ish to install a third party one. Where as I have hosting via name cheap and they allow you to install an ssl cert for free. (I use ssls.com for cheap ssl certs), so I am going to move from vidahost because of this and the fact they have now put the prices up. Their support has also gone right down, slow to respond and they response is really poor now.

I made a "ticket" yesterday with vidahost, a message between you and me. Anyway they said they sell certs or can apply a 3rd party one for £20, but the chap said he can apply a free one. Which he asked me if I wanted and thats what vida have done, my site is SSL and can use https.

the free SSL came from letsencrypt.org/ as mentioned by SUMMONER above.

Thanks for this

Done the same and boom, SSL cert for free - I realise the lets encrypt one isn't as fully featured but I don't need all the features anyway so bonus!
