Buying a Web Address....I'm Confused

Hi all,

I'm really confused. I want to buy a web address, and then pay someone to host the site (only like 20mg) for that web address.

Can someone offer me advice on which is the best website to buy this from. the prices dont seem to expensive, however i'm noobish about this kind of thing and don't want to get ripped off.

I dont need any email addresses or anything, simply a certain web address.co.uk and space to host the site on.

Any advice/help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, well I use www.one.com, you get 1gb space and ~unlimited bandwith~ for £10.58 a year...but if you go through quidco, you get £10 cash back so makes it 58p for the year, (theres .com, .net, .org etc etc available too). Hope this helps...

ur not making a rival hukd website are you?

I use zz hosting. There help is priceless. My OH emails them when he gets abit stuck on something and they reply very quick with great support.

I purchased the domain name and hosting through them i think..

Work checking out

HAHA yeah, hotsanchdeals Not got the same ring

be careful with good introductary first year rates, they dont tell you when your contract expires and then try to charge you a fortune for the 2nd year.

depends what your using it for there are plenty "free" sites out there that you can host a website on but it will include the company name within that URL ei...... www.hotukdeals.moonfruit.com

a lot of ISP give you a certain amount of free webhosting anyway so you can just set up web forwarding from your domain name to your free hosting if you like, depends how professional you want to come accross.

All depends what your site will be for.

If its just personal use, there are several free hosts you can use.

My personal recommendation would be to buy your domain from www.123-reg.co.uk which will cost you approx £6 for 2 years and then use www.34sp.com for your host and think their annual fee is £17.95 for 500MB

I doubt you will find cheaper for the domain, but you will be for the host. The old saying applies though..."you get what you pay for."

Thanks for everyones advice.

Basically I want to have a webpage for a bed & breakfast. Nothing fancy, just so people can log on and see pictures a map, contact details etc.

Was hosted on my ISPs free web hosting but really wanted to get my own address to look a bit more swish.

You can still do this. Just set the control panel to direct within a frame to your ISP pages. Better still would be if your ISP can give you namesever details so you can point the domain via this method - which will also help in google searches.
