Hey people, just wondering what a fair percentage discount would be on ex display item - more specifically an All in One PC?

Tescos do 20% off all their Ex Display stock including laptops and PCs x

10% minimum, thats if its in as new condition. Go over it with a fine tooth comb and point out every scratch to the salesperson. If theres quite a few ask for more off

Ten percent is standard unless you can point out any missing accessories that should have been in the box, or smudges or scratches)

If they go over it with a comb there will be plenty of scratches on it - should get it for free then!!! :whistling:;-):-D

:thumbsup::giggle:

I would say at least 20% minimum as these days 10% is quite the norm during a sale season & that's a brand new item. Ex-display desktop PC & laptops are most certainly been turned off most the day on the shelves for customers to trial them let alone if it has something missing like cables or manuals. Fair enough, if it was not turned on & behind a glass cabinet then may expect at least 10% off.

well now you mention it..............a large scratch appearing down th side/back will knock a bt off the price:whistling:

10% in general but i'd norm go 30%+ to get rid of items, if its electrical and pluged in id want at least 30%+ remember ths has been on more than off in its lifetime

Was in a sale, no leads, no box, no manual still think it was a bargain

Which all it one is it? A simple all-in-one with no touchscreen or moving parts isn't going to have much that can be worn down by being on display but if it's something more fancy with a touchscreen or sliding/adjusting bits then you probably want a bigger discount.

Also ask whether any mouse and keyboard included with it were on display.

No trouble in getting rid of this display, it was the last for over 200 miles and I had to reserve it. It was a deal posted on here actually.

Thanks for the comments people. Think Ill go for 20%!!

Its this one for the person that asked search.dell.co.uk/1/3…-pc

[EDIT, without the touch screen]

Oh, and its got a Dell sicker on the back saying damaged, display item only.....

There is no 'fair' percentage. You just have to barter with whoever is selling it.

i got offered the netbook from tescos which was already reduced to £199, they said theydo all ex displays at 20% off, but it would be 30% off for me as I have staff 10% discount too. stupid me didnt take up the offer there and then and someone else had taken it
i wouldnt settle any lower than 20%

at Currys if something is already priced to clear, we're not allowed to discount anything further off the price of the item itself.
so if you're after 20% off a display model at the likes of PC World, Currys its unlikely. they may discount add-ons such as software, bag, mouse, internet dongle etc but thats about it

Yup, yr spot on!

The sales assistant gave me the "its already reduced" line, and we cant discount any further knowing full well that price is also for a "new" PC on their website

Probably making too much money :-D

as far as that goes, its what we have to do.
we dont have the luxury of discounting 10-30% off anymore.

if the company says no discount unless its a price promise or a ticket mistake, then thats what we have to do.

Sorry.

Believe me I'd make a lot more sales if I could say, yeah, 20% discount if you take the last one.
sadly tho, the average amount of profit on a PC or laptop is less than 15%.

up until just before Xmas there was a thing that could be accessed by management called the margin tool, that told the buy in price of any item, so we could see how much profit it makes.
that was abolished and now its impossible for anyone to see how much margin is in each product.

we dont get commission and bonus is done on how much profit you make.
discount level is taken into account too.

so the sales person was literally just doing their job.

you can try the manager in situations like this, they have a little more leverage with regard to discount
