    Buying Laptop in the US

A family member is going to Miama next week and I found a laptop I like store.hp.com/us/…151

Cheapest in Uk is £700 ($915) with student discount or £800 ($1046) without it. I like the design, no dvd tray and USB C. Its cheaper in US site, seen it $730 yesterday as a one day special but now its $750 which is still cheaper than UK.

    1. Would HP deliver to hotel address?
    2. Or do other online retailers sell this model?
    3. Is there a similar specced laptop with i7, USB C and 15.6" and similar price?

So you'll get a U.S. keyboard and power cable though power supplies are usually multi voltage these days and you should me able to just change the cable out use a plug adaptor. And they may well not support it for warranty in the UK. Not sure what sales tax in Miami is but that will be extra on top in New York it's 8% for example.

Better off buying from a store like best buy than risking the slow delivery times in the US.

ah shoot, forgot about American keyboard layout. I take it you cant just physically pop the key out and change it and change region/keyboard settings to UK?

You might get hit for import tax and vat on entry into UK as well.

may only get a short intl warranty or no uk warranty at all
as mentioned you will have the florida sales tax of 6% on top
you can change keyboard setting to uk but if you start popping keys out say goodbye to any warranty you could put a sticker on the key

    Broken link.

Personal allowance for shopping abroad is items up to £390 I believe.

I have bought a laptop off Amazon in the US and had it delivered to my hotel room (using my Amazon.co.uk account). The major issue is the warranty. If it is delivered not working will you have time to send it back? Often better to see what deals Best Buy have on as they will usually match internet prices and you can check it all works when you pick it up. One thing is you do not normally pay tax on Amazon where you will with Best Buy.

US keyboard is not a big issue but you can normally swap to UK layout if it is a big issue for me you. I also dumped all boxes etc (take pictures of any labels) to make it difficult to tell it was new coming through customs.

3 months ago maybe, but with the poor exchange rates I wouldn't bother.
