    B&W Laser or Colourjet printer

anyone know of a decent laser or colourjet printer for which i could also buy cheaper refills / compatible ink/toner cartridges?

Not wanting HP as apparently they have some sort of chip which detects the type of cartridge installed

Samsung CLP300 Colour Laser Printer I've got one of these and they are under £100 and compatible toners are easily available from eBay for less than £20 for a full set.

stefor how long you had that printer for? are the toners safe to use with the printer?

If you are ok with a black and white printer, why not buy a refurbished Laserjet 4000/4050/4100 or 2100/2200/2300 (n/tn/dtn) for £30-60 (loads available on eBay).

They are cheap to buy, very cheap to print with and built to last. If you do, be sure to check with the seller that the refurbishment included both the rollers and fuser unit. Some traders like to pass up a quick wipe with a paper towel as a "refurbishment".

I pay approximately 0.2pence per page, when printing text on my old Laserjet 4000TN. Printer cost me £10 + another £6 for me to refurbish the fuser (replace the Teflon coated film sleeve inside). The toner cartridge lasts for more than 9000 pages and costs ~ £15 delivered.

Defo the best idea, search for those in the local area that you are able to collect, they go for a song, are cheap to run and plenty of toner options available.

Jeez... You're kidding me! £6 to refurb the fuser? When my £1800 Lexmark (with less than a 1500 page count) ended with marks on the fuser, I thought it was a dead duck and took it down the dump! Oh the pain!

I've had my Samsung for about a year and a half and been through 2 sets of toner. I usually refill the originals myself, but recently these ready filled ones have been hitting eBay, which saves a lot of hassle. Great economical printer, fast and reliable.
