    C and MySQL

I need to teach myself both C and MySQL. I have a few months to do it, what learning resources would you recommend?

Depends: Can you program? And, do you know SQL (in which case you already have the mysql part covered)?

I use lynda.com for subjects like this, but neither c or mysql are on there! Have you tried getting any of those 'For Dummies' books? Cause I find they are quite good when starting out.

I can program in Java, it's been a few years since I've done any so I'll need to brush up. I have no sql knowledge.

Are the "For Dummies" books any good? I've never tried any of them, I thought they'd be pretty basic

If you know Java then C is a walk in the park for you as they are very similar. Try buying books on Amazon, there's quite a few decent ones that will get you up to speed in no time!
P.S. The SQL for dummies may be useful to you if you never done SQL before, however I would suggest you buy a different book for C.

I'm reading C++ for dummies at the moment, its a really good introduction to programming. It gives an insight to new programmers and goes over it for older programmers. Look on an ebook site to pick up a dirt cheap copy.

I'd say they were good if you had no previous experience, since it starts from the very beginning and takes you through step by step.

I torrented 1.7gb worth of ebooks which cover pretty much every programming language out there maybe look for some also

Do you really need to know C, as C++ would be more suitable learning path as you already know Java?

If you are looking for a good book for C, the best one out there is the Kernigan, Ritchie (who developed the C language) one "The C Programming Language" - however are you really after C (would seem strange nowadays) or rather C++, which as has been pointed out earlier is very similar to Java, so no problem there.
SQL is also quite straightforward provided you don't need things like query optimisation or other advanced stuff.

Oh, I must get in touch and ask if it is C++ that would sound more reasonable to me. I have just dl'ed quite a few ebooks, thanks everyone for help rep being left right now
