    Call centre charges...

we know that some call centres have 0870 which is 10p per mintue or whatever.

Orange sales hotline is 0800 whereas customer services is 079 and 0870.

So if i ring the 0800 number and they divert me to there customer services, will the call be free or will it cost?

    thanks

depends on if it's an internal transfer or not.
If it is there system is doing the handover and hence no charge to you.

It depends on the setup of the company as I understand it.
It being orange I would predict they'd charge - might be wrong on this one though - anyone else have any thoughts?

I rang them up the first time and the women goes that I cant connect you, she give me the number to ring which was 079.

i rang them up again with the 0800 number and someone else answred and diverted me

You dialed an 0800 number any call on that number on a normal landline should remain free.

118XXX type services are premium anyways and have charged a dedicated amount for any forwarded calls so cannot be compared as far as I know.

I've used 0800 sales multiple times to use CS in the past, but then I got lazy and got an O2 contract which i've used for 3 years for CS calls, and renewals of that contract will maintain NGN call usage hopefully.

Ultimately those not with 0800 or O2 NGN option will always have:

oh okay thanks for that schziboy, i just ordred a few phones from orange, and they dont put the £10 credit on which I have paid for, and will need to ring them up too get it.

    thanks

Its as per 'Shimagoza' says, depends on the company. For example I work for somone who has various call centre's around the country, and each call centre does a different job if you call me on Cust Serv and you need sales I will transfer you but you then start paying for call, similar to how Directory Enquiries work.

Had two situations recently were I wasn't sure if I was going to be charged.

    1. Phoned an 0870 number to phone abroad using my o2 contact, I know the 0870 part is free but before it connected to the international number after getting the dialing tone from the 0870 number it said I would be charged for the international part. Surly I can only be charged for the 0870 part (which is free anyway) as I have dialed an 0870 number.

    2. I got a call from some company wanting to sell me something and it's just an automated message saying press 1 to talk to someone. So I pressed 1 with the intention of shouting at someone but it just cut me off after 5 minutes. I assume no one ready to take my call. One of my friends said that they can charge for this though but I thought they couldn't as I haven't even dialed out!

My mum also said there's a scam about where you can be charged for an 0800/0808 number but they're all free aren't they???

Surely according to BT you've still called an 0800 number and can't be charged unless you're told about it???

You should be told but doesn't always happen.

And your 2nd experience your friend is right. By you pressing 1 you have been diverted to an outgoing call and will probably be charged.

Do you have a link where it explains this? Maybe from BT's web-site?
