Calling all dragons to the den.......

I am looking for an investment of £50,000 to open my Chinese Tapas style restaurant....

Have you ever been to the Chinese Restaurant and wanted to try loads of different things on the menu but the large portion sizes make you stick to just a couple of dishes....

Well this restaurant will have taster sized portions, this means that you can order a variety of dishes to try so you still get the experience of trying all of the dishes you want but also knowing that the reduced portion sizes means reduce costs leaving your wallet very full and happy.

Thanks for listening...I know open the floor to any questions you may have about the propsal.

I'm in! Are you sure you only need 50k?

    Let's talk figures.....

    Turnover:
    Income:
    Revenue:
    Profit:

(can anybody see what I did there ;-))

    What assets do you have?
How much time are will you be putting towards this enterprise?
Do you currently work for another company, if yes, will you be leaving?
Are you involved or do you have any other business or business plans which are unrelated to
    this restaurant?
How large or small a variety will you have i.e. The whole of East Asia or just China?
    What is your target audience?
Where is the restaurant going to be?
Do you have hopes for a chain or will this be a single restaurant?

Exactly...your own portions not scooping from a communal pot with a serving spoon that old women have coughed on!

This is the swine flu era people..everyone to their own food.

Hi Mr. Potatoe Head....My name welshdan and let me tell you where I am!...
Great idea and I'd defo pop in for a bite to eat but unfortunately I'm brasic and therefore won't be investign in your idea today. Thanks

Well, the idea is OK. What you need to do is differentiate it from the others. No point going to a place and eating a tapa portion of sweet and sour pork or crispy beef. If you were able to develop a menu which was unique, maybe fave chicken feet, heart, octupus or the likes. Maybe check out street food in china/taiwan and see what they serve. Having that on the menu and serving unique stuff will probably make it work. The "buffet mindset and oh walking into a chinese place and ordering without even looking at the menu" types will not be your target audience.. you will have too convert them

As for investment.. i'm out.. Im still trying ot raise money for a concept Indian eatery!!

    Year one: turnover £250,000
    Profit £30,000

    year two: turnover £600,000
    profit £110,000

    year 3: turnover £1.3 mil
    profit £400,000

I have a location bought for the restaurant.
I will commit 60 hours a week to the company and will leave my current job (not in the catering indusrty).
No other business plans but can see this restarunt branching out...cookbooks etc
It will be thai, chinese and sushi. a few specials of vietnamese, cambodian dishes etc.

Target audience is couples as it is a chic restaurant and the portion size is good for this but will normal protion sizes on the menu too.

It will start off as a single restaurant but like i said is possible to expand but no brand name yet.

Hardly a novel Idea, I have been eating dim sum for years at my local restaurant.

This is different..this is a chic restaurant aimed at couples who want to eat a variety but dont want the large portions.

They will be mainstream dishes but small portions, but also a few that are not your usual..maybe some local delicacies

you're taking the tapas, I'm out

Let me hit you with the basics.....

You're main selling point [I know that's the incorrect term but I couldn't remember the correct one lol] is that you have a large variety of pint sized portions and as such people order multiple dishes in order to tantalise their their taste buds.

I'm guessing this will be a high class restaurant and as such all the food will be cooked fresh.
Now i forgot to ask but how many people can the restaurant hold?...let's say it's 100 although I'm guessing it will be more.
So if you have a full house how do you know what they're going to order, for all you know all 100 could order the same dish. Will your kitchen have enough ingredients to cater for all 100?

If no, then that's bad for business and the businesses reputation will soon go downhill.
If yes, then you will have to have enough ingredients for at least 100 dishes per every item on the menu. Your kitchen will be stocked like crazy. Add that to the fact that the food will need to be cooked fresh....all the leftover stock will have to be thrown away and that's a hell of a lot of money to be thrown away each night/week.

I rushed that so not sure if it makes much sense but in short; you're main point of the restaurant is it's biggest weakness.

    I'm out :-D

    i'll give you 1 tenner for a 25% share ....................

it's a good deal, i think you would be stupid to refuse

It all makes sense!!! You have a sensible head on your shoulders....so i will make the assumption you are loaded and in turn this would make £50,000 a pathetic some of money to invest in such a great and profitable idea (see profit margins from prevous post).

It will indeed be a high end restaurant based on quality of ingredients and the freshness but the variety will be no more than any other chinese..just that the protions will be a 1/3 or 1/4 the size for a quarter of the price.

It would be a 150 seated restaurant with a takeaway branch aswell.

I see what you are saying but the stock wouldnt be an issue as it would be the same as every other chinese in terms of stock but with a higher quality and freshness...

The word you were looking for I think is unique selling point but that may be incorrect also.

I am disappointed with your decision but at least James "I will invest in anything" Khan is still in.

    An interesting idea.
If say a group of people come in and all want the same dish, will it be possible to buy the normal size portions too?

Yes it is based on the small portions but normal portion sizes are also availiable...all dishes have the normal size and smaller size next to each other on the menu...so you can pick and choose

Normal egg fried rice but small portion of chicken balls...i mean who wants about 12 chicken balls in a pack whereas the small portion just has 3 for just over quarter the price.

    This restaurant would fail....badly.
