Hi all

Looking for a compact camera for around £125.

What would be my best option at that price point?

Cheers for any advice.

Hi,
a truly exceptional camera, albeit a little larger than average, is the Canon A720 IS. It costs around the £130 mark. A slightly cheaper alternative, yet similarly capable camera, is the Canon A570 IS.

Take a look at:

A570IS can be had for £105 or the absolutely excellent A650IS (6x optical zoom, 12 MegaPixels) for £142.95

I think you mean A720IS for £105 rather than A570IS, all these numbers can be very confusing - or is it the wine!

Hi guys, time to jump on the band wagon; sorry to hijack the post!

I'm also in the market for something similar, and have been looking at:

Canon A720 as above;
Fuji Finepix S5700 - 7.1mp, 10x optical zoom £104.99 on Play
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ2EB-S - 6mp, image stabilizer, 10mp £109.99 on Play

Anybody able to help me/us out? Weaning myself off a Kodak 3.2mp Easyshare camera that's quite simply awful!

Thanks, and sorry again for hijacking the post.

Personally I'd go for the Canon, if only because I've had 2 powershots and find them to be excellent cameras. That's not to say that the other 2 are bad cameras. I'd try to find some reviews on the internet and then look at the pros and cons and see if there's anything that would sway it for you. One of the best things to do would be to go into a Jessops shop to actually have a look/feel of the cameras. You may find that you can't stand the operation controls of one of them.

I'm prepared to be told otherwise, but I think the Canon image stabilisation is one of the best around, certainly better than the Fuji.

The image stabilisation in the powershot series is the same optical image stabilisation as exists in their excellent SLR EOS range. Nearly all reviews comment on the sharpness and clarity of the images. The newer Canon camera's have the iSAPS system which helps in setting all the options to get the best settings in auto mode, if you dont mind a bit of bulk then i would highly recommend the A650IS as it uses the same lens from the much more expensive Canon G7 camera.
