Camping Help....Where to go this weekend?

The OH works in London, I work in Manchester. We want to go camping this weekend (Fri to Mon). We both have cars but I have all the gear. Ideally I want us to meet somewhere in the middle.

Weather-wise it looks like the whole of England and Wales is destined for rain both Fri and Sun, but obviously decent weather would be a deciding factor. Is anywhere looking decent this weekend? Other requirements are being close to some decent countryside for walks, a well equipped (perhaps even cool) site and some decent local pubs.

The OH is insistent that I should get the train down to Euston and then we'll drive to Camber Sands or New Forest as someone has recommended them to her, she reckons the weather will be better there and her car is paid for by her work (unlike mine). Whereas I am evidently not keen, seeing that I have a tent, sleeping bags, stove, chairs etc.

I need to come back with something tonight as she's starting to get narked off as Friday is looming and we still don't know what we are doing. As you may be able to tell, I am clueless.....

So I'm turning to HUKD yet again for advice. Can anyone recommend somewhere that will fulfil my requirements? Anywhere will do (Lincs, Gloucs etc......just as long as I don't have to get the train and it's not a million miles from Manchester or London). I'm going to be finishing work at 12 on Fri and seeing that the OH is escaping from London traffic, I am prepared to compromise and put in a few extra miles than her.

Obviously if someone has a tip-off about the weather being glorious somewhere, then I would be very keen on camping there.

Any help would be appreciated a lot.

Probably need to re-word as a million miles from London and Manchester. Not sure whether the Peak District is a bit too far for the missus to drive up...
