I honestly thought PPG cant be reversed, as you sent it as a gift, so your giving money for free anyway, so how could it be reversed ? also when you send money as a gift, there aint a refund option or charge back option anyway, so how would you do it ? you cant.

From what I can tell I can only claim this back if I say my account was hacked and it wasn't me who sent the payment? Which would then compromise my paypal account and affect my ebay listings etc. So how do you reverse any other way?

You cant reverse if you paid by PPG, see my above post, not legally anyway, and if your going to say you was hacked, they can say that on a protected transaction also.

That was a while ago!And no, lost money on that one unfortunately!

Oh, that sucks. Sorry that happened to you.

Yes it can be, as I've been on the receiving end of a PPG reversal!

The best way to receive money is if the payee deposits cash into your account in person at a bank.

As above, I am unsure why someone downvoted.

It can be reversed and if the payee deposits the funds into your bank account, that is the safest option and is irreversible.

I have a hell of a situation at the moment. Sold an expensive chainset to a guy in France. International Tracked. Says today didn't get it yet.

Proof of postage from post office is wrong - the girl entered it manually as the machine wouldn't scan the code. Whatever she typed in doesn't show up on the system, maybe got some digit wrong.

Anyway, I'll be down 240 quid if the buyer has got it and is just testing the waters to see if he can get away with it right now. He knows the tracking isn't right, get the item or not, he can get his cash back.

Royal Mail says no way to track it without the original number.

So you have the original receipt? If there is an issue surely you can make a claim with Royal Mail claiming the item is lost.

    Thanks for your replies.

What reason can they use to reverse it? It doesn't even have to be for an item-just a cash gift. I was presuming this was a safer (for the seller) way of taking a payment, as opposed to a normal request for funds from a buyer? (which could be, even if the item doesn't come under the paypal protection scheme-ie selling something NOT from ebay.

I just tried to dispute a resolution and it says as it was a paypal gift it's not got seller/buyer protection. Only other option is to raise as an unauthorised transaction on my account. If i'd paid by credit card linked to paypal I could ask the credit card company to chargeback but this was direct from my bank to paypal.

It can happen when the payee informs the bank the transaction was illegitimate and not made by themselves.

    As above.

That's unfortunate, you should always keep your receipts, as I'm sure you will do from now on. Hopefully it will turn out okay.

So would you say its safer to send a request for funds-and send item to the verified paypal address, or to let them send me a ppg and then send it? Neither option falling under paypal protection scheme.

Reading payals seller protection terms, it states that

"If you are sent an unauthorised payment – for example, from a hacked account – or a buyer claims they didn't receive their item, our Seller Protection policy covers you for the full amount of the payment on eligible sales."

So for a request for funds (or payment) the seller protection should apply?

    And..

"If you’re not selling on eBay, make sure the transaction is marked as 'eligible' for Seller Protection."

Wouldnt this be enough? And be safer than ppg that doesn't have any protection?

What about if you sell something and some pay via BT and comeback that way ? as selling stuff online is a murky world (well can be anyhow).

Nope - if the French post office entered the tracking info incorrectly then they will blame it on the French - and you cannot claim from France because they did not provide the service

Looks like buyer checked the tracking and realised it has failed.

What you have said doesn't make sense. Perhaps you have misread what the other member wrote.

The item was sent in the UK and the PO supplied the receipt, however the tracking number was not correct because it was typed manually, therefore the sender was unable to track the item. However if they retained their original receipt they would have proof that they posted the item and would therefore be able to make a claim should the buyer claim the item has not arrived.

Ah I see, sorry to hear that. Unfortunately it's quite a regular scam and you were very lucky to get your money back! I've seen many similar things happen and think you're the only person to do so. Lesson learnt I guess.

If it is insured correctly and posted directly to the addressee and not a 3rd party courier then of course Royal Mail are responsible. I'm not sure where you're getting your information from.

I have, more than once. I was compensated fine, it just took a little while to complete.

That is why they insure international items and you can pay for extra compensation.
