Can a person really change there characteristics?

I've seen some posts on here condemning people and stating if someone has done something wrong in the past, do you really believe that a leopord cannot change his spots or is it worth giving them a second chance?

    Is a cheat always a cheat...Is a liar always a liar...and is a murderer always a murderer?

I believe people can change if the person has had a personal realisation but what do you think?

i to believe people can change if they really want to, but they have to see the wrong before they can do this, some people will never change because its easier to carry on doing what they are doing

Yes people can change as long as they learn. The problem though is that many people actively resist learning - not that surprising given that it can often be painful.

Yes I think anyone can change their ways IF THEY want to, but always capable of reverting back at any time!! (as with any behaviour/addiction!)

A person can change, but they will alway be what they've been branded, if you lie once, it cant be reversed he will have always been a lair, no matter if he never lies again.

Taking it to the extreme but thats my logic.

Depend on what's been done. Cheating, as an example, is something what stays with you for all your life. Yes you can change (e.g. not cheat again) however you've done it and this can't be reversed.

So I agree with MinstrelMan

Obviously depends on circumstances but looking at it simply I agree, except that a person has to do it twice.
If a person lies once and doesn't do it again then it can be forgiven and perhaps even forgotten over time. But if they do it twice then I agree with the above.

I'm glad to hear people believe others can change but I believe this can only happen after having a realisation.

If you saw the way I am now and the way I was when I was a teenager, you honestly wouldn't believe the difference, even my own sister says she can't believe the transformation and it's not a phase because I've kept it up for several years and I'm not gonna lie to you and pretend that it happened over night.

I'm someone that believes in self improvement, if something is worth fighting for, I will strive to try and become the perfect person.

I hope everyone else will feel the same and attempts to become a better person, as it's not about staying still or even moving backwards...it's always about moving forward.

Is a troll always a troll?

We'll we've all seen the "Ok I'm stopping now" threads, so I'm guessing the answer is no. Troll's can't change.

People can change though for sure. Often its through an enormous amount of will power and effort. When that happens, it's all a little bit fake. On the other hand, if change is made without any knowledge or consideration, it's those circumstances where you can say to yourself you've really changed.

A troll only remains a troll because they haven't experienced a realisation that people don't like them. :giggle:

It does take a lot of willpower but it's not fake...it's about changing to become a better person and more family orientated etc...your views on life change i.e you aren't a born family man but you adjust to your surroundings and then it becomes natural.

We are all motivated by reward. Everyone does whatever they think will bring them the greatest reward (as they judge it at the time). Problem is we all perceive different things as rewards and rewarding.
To change a person's behaviour we have to make them see that the rewards for making the change are greater than the rewards for staying as they are. We also then have to make sure that they possess the knowledge, skills, etc. to make this change. If this cannot be done then they will continue to behave in the same way as they always did.
