this is the silly sort of question my missus comes out with, panicing
No...
Well in theory it only takes the testament of both officers to say you were speeding. But in reality it's not going to happen.
I'm fairly sure they have to follow procedure and follow you for 1/4mile to assess your speed. I doubt they could judge it if you were both travelling towards each other and you were only 15mph over...

saying that, my knowledge is purely based on Traffic Cops and Motorway Patrol on Bravo and Dave!
no I think they have to actually give you the ticket with a speed reading to prove you were speeding

On what level? My dad was a copper for 30 years.

A testament from 2 officers to say you were in excess of the speed limit is enough. They don't need to follow you or clock your speed.

Maybe 30 years ago

No court in the land would convict a driver of speeding based on the testament of 2 officers without documented proof

He retired in 2007.

The documented proof is the statements. As I said not very likely, but possible all the same. Normally drivers that it applies to are charged with a more serious offence like dangerous driving.

Next time you see a cop you ask them. Gets used often on assault chargers where the victim doesn't make a complaint.
My sister is a copper, and I spent some time as a special constable.

The testament of two officers is correct, but it has to be reasonable grounds. Were you to race past the coppers at an obvious speed whilst they were stationary, and they were then able to catch up with you then yes. They could pull you over and give you a rollocking and often a producer ( HORT1) for your documents, but proof is required if they were to issue a fixed penalty.

you were on a dual carriageway, and doing probably 15 mpg over. Now you are given a 10% limit due to speedometer differences, and if you were to get your GPS, you'd probably find that you were doing possibly 10% under the speed shown on your speedometer.

As a paramedic now, I've seen enough injuries and death caused by reckless driving, so I disapprove of all speeding regardless of how much

that's my two pence worth. Point of the matter is that you've got away with it this time
Actually, on a normal road, all that is needed to get a prosecution for speeding, is an officers opinion, and a collaboration, this could be another officer, a speed gun or a speedometer.

So, YES, the opinion of two policeman IS enough to prosecute for speeding. They don't need a speed.

On a motorway, it gets even worse, they only need ONE opinion.
If you broke and he broke then maybe his equipment was broken too so he couldn't record speed or anything!! If everything and everyone was broken maybe there's nothing that could be used as evidence.
