Can a website charge me more than the total when I placed the order?

Can a website charge me more than the total when I placed the order?

I placed an order but have been charged more than the total. I have a copy of the screen with the order total and also a copy of the Visa Verified screen which states the amount I thought I was paying.

I used a promotional code which seemed to add a bigger discount than it should.

(This is not related to Littlewoods etc)

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

No they cant charge you more, contact customer services and tell them you have the proof and demand a refund (who is the company if you dont mind letting us know)

    They "can", as they did.
    Is it legal? No.

    I just read your line

"I used a promotional code which seemed to add a bigger discount than it should"

So if it was a mistake with the code then i dont think you can do much, is the price your were debited the actual cost it should have been (with the correct discount)

It was from the BMJ (British Medical Journal) website. They sent me a unique code for 10% off but it actually gave me 40% off. The amount debited is for the 10% off.

Is it still legal for them to have debited more from me without contacting me?
