I was thinking something along those lines before I saw your comment.
If this were a true alert it should show up regardless of what we site you are accessing. Be really careful if you see alerts like this as you may be encouraged to download something that may in fact do your computer damage.

eergh cant trust anyone these days :x

Infections like this are NOT viruses but malware / spyware (while the PROGRAM may say you have a virus, the program saying it is MALWARE / SPYWARE and you may not have any viruses at all, they are just trying to get money out of you).

Anti virus programs often DONT check for malware / spyware so you need separate programs to do that.

These malware / spyware programs are VERY nasty and will often block access to the web (or at least access to well known security web sites).

They may also redirect all web searches to their own web site (or web sites they want you to go to).

They may even turn OFF your proper security products.

They will also re-install themselves if you do manage to uninstall them.

See if you can download malwarebytes and run that (if not download it on ANOTHER computer and use a memory key to install it on your PC).
    malwarebytes.org/

In future make sure you have a firewall installed, AND anti virus, AND anti malware.

I should also say my daughters laptop had TWO programs like this install themselves a year or so back.

I know a LOT about computers and tried for ages to clean it up. In the end it was so infected I did as "v2drinkers" above says, and reinstalled Windows.

You need to backup EVERYTHING on your computer you want to keep (pictures, music, documents etc).

I would do this anyway as you may well need to reinstall Windows so best to have files backed up somewhere else.

If you have not got one, buy an external hard drive and copy all your personal files to that (it is worth doing this in future anyway as it is always good to have a backup of important files).

    lfc_engravedonheart;8289270

Depending on the make of the laptop you may have a recovery CD or a recovery partition. This will take your laptop back to factory settings (and delete ALL files on the disk in the process).

Check with the documentaion that came with the laptop to see if it mentions anything about recovery CD or recovery partition.

Also try the laptop company web site (check in their support section).

Doing a recovery will be FAR easier than doing a "fresh" Windows install (which if you have never done one before is NOT that easy).

whilst I totall agree that AVG is useless, the OP didnt have any AV until they put AVG on the laptop yesterday - no wonder its infected! :w00t:

I would, and i'm not even local!

Lynds, do you have an external hard-drive? Whether you get rid of the viruses or not, it's always worth having a copy of your important stuff on your lappy. For £35-£40, it's well worth it in the event of your lappy going tits up.

Reinstalling windows is extremely easy. Backing up your important folders/files is a lot longer to do.

Start by booting in to safe mode with networking.

Once into windows you should be able to access the internet.

Download and run technibble.com/rki…ek/ this will get rid of any processes that could stop virus scanners.

    Then run malwarebytes.org/

Thats worked for me in the past

    just C: and D:

    Ok, you have internet access.

So, go and download this - Malwarebytes. - malwarebytes.org/ - The free version will suffice. The pay versions are for round the clock protection. We dont need that just yet. Just the program to remove these.

Now, download that, install it and when it asks to update and launch, do so.

Then, the program will start, hit scan and leave it to run. Might take only 20mins, might take 1-2 hours. Leave it be, and if possible, turn off the internet on the computer you are scanning, either by taking out the ethernet cable, or turning the wifi on the laptop / pc off.

Once the scan has finished, you click Show Results, then hit remove. This will remove these and it may then tell you it will have to remove any remaining files after restarting the pc.

Restart the PC, and malwarebytes will automaticaly start up again before you pc even gets to the desktop. Run the scan again, and let it remove the files.

You may have to do this several times, especially if one file cannot be removed. If a file cant be removed after countless scans, then a quick jump into dos and deleting the file by command is what is needed.

ermmm dont know how to get into safe mode  tried f8 and nothing happened... said along bottom press f2 for set up so done that but couldnt see safe mode anywhere... i know, i'm thick... sorry

Pretty much all computers can be put into safe mode by pushing f8, some older ones its f4. So as soon as you turn your computer on keep tapping f8 until the option to boot into safe mode appears
