Can anyone suggest a 17" frame bike for my son?

My son has recently had his bike stolen and I need to get him a new one. Due to the fact he didn't look after the last particularly well I don't want to spend anymore than £150-£200 (max). I've been looking at the ones on Halfords due to the 20% extra off, I just wondered if anyone had any advice?

It needs to be a 17" frame. The one he likes the look of, the apollo radar halfords.com/cyc…015 seems to have quite mixed reviews. It is obviously a heavy bike but the options for a 17" frame is limited so just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions or advice on whether this would be an ok bike for £127.99?

Many thanks

Sorry to hear about the bike

IMO
At that price avoid suspension, disc brakes. extra weight and they will prob break easily and require more maintenance.
Look on ebay for local bikes for sale you may get a good deal there for a nearly new one.

I bought a Carrera Parva Hybrib bike from Halfords last week for my wife. I was tempted to get the Men's version for myself (link below).

It's just under 14kg so feels fairly light compared to the Apollo ones. I know it's a Hybrid but the tyres are quite wide.

I was looking at this one too. It seems like a good bike for the money but it's 18inch frame and my son is just turning 12 so too big for the kids bikes which stop at a 16" frame. He sat on the 17" one yesterday and it is really does seem the maximum height otherwise I'd have gone for the parva

If your son doesn't mind, then how about the Women's version in 16"?

And TBH, it doesn't look like a Women's bike at all.

I'm going to take him to halfords now to try the 18" frame for size. It doesn't look bad at all the women's but, at 12, there will be someone in school who realises it is a woman's bike and then it will be discarded ha
