Can I back-up my data from my Sky plus box?

I have tried looking for this information everywhere but cant find it, not even on this website, which is strange.

Does someone know if this is possible & how? Also, please be aware, my technical skills on a scale of 0 to 10 (lowest to highest) is 1.

    Rep for all relevant responses.

Tried recently and failed, should be possible but its one for the geeks on here.

You will also need to remove the hard drive from the Sky box and connect it to your PC via a caddy. I did it a couple of weeks ago when I swapped my Sky hard drive for a 1TB drive. Here's a guide to removing the hard drive from a Thomson Sky+ HD box - ]GUIDE

I don't know somebody, but there is a need for the software, that is why it was created so obviously people do it. Quite a few on the digital spy forums do it I believe.

Without opening the box there is absolutely no hope of you backing it up. The guide provided shows you how to open the box.

The above mentioned software works a treat and is simple to use, the only way you are going to be able to do what you are asking is by removing the hdd as previously stated by Mr.potato_head, again something that is simple to achieve.

the above mention software doesn't let you view recordings or remove any encryption and use is for swapping between sky boxes.

as far as i am aware once your subscription expires you can only view recordings from FTA stations and to back them up to watch later you will need to record them to a VHS, DVD HDD recorder in real time using the copy feature from the sky planner.

You are right that copy+ wont do this but it is possible to do.

There is another software called +extract that will rip through protection as far as I'm aware, allowing you to watch it on your PC.

Now to find someone who has done 'that' successfully will look into it when I upgrade to Sky HD.

Anyone know if programmes expire if theyve been on there too long?
