Can I cancel Virgin Media Contract without penalty because VAT rise is a price rise?
Found 13th Dec 2010
I am tied into a Virgin Media contract through to July but wish to cancel because I am moving abroad. I phoned the virgin team today to look at options and asked whether the VAT rise allowed me to end my contract without penalty since their T&C does refer to an increase in prices as being one of the reasons you can terminate (within 30 days of being notified or of the rise being billed). I was told it did not count because it wasn't significant enough and because it was a vat rise. My view is that they are increasing their prices - not by a flat 2.5% - so therefore I could terminate. They disagreed. Any advice appreciated please.
