Can I claim expense from company for a canceled hotel stay?

I am going to London for a day conference, have to get there one day in advance.
Booked a refundable "cheap" hotel and paid £100.00 online, and got the VAT receipt.
I am asking whether I could stay with my friend in London, and claim the £100.00 for myself?

Whether accountant from my company could verify my staying or cancellation with the hotel?

    Cheers
    Thanks.

Why risk potentially losing your job for £100?

    Just stay at the hotel

What about your conscience! For the sake of £100? I'm always up for a good deal and a glitch anytime but this is different ... it's not honest. It's a no from me! Just imagine if your employer found out.... not worth it! Perhaps if you mentioned you could stay with a friend instead of the cost of a hotel they might cover some of your expenses... say some money to cover your breakfast and evening meal!

Too easy to be found out mate so not worth doing it. Effectively it's fraudulent.

Pretend you are the employer .....Now what would you want the employee to do? What would get the best response from you? Do that!!

    This.

Explain to your boss you have provisionally booked a room at £100 but theres a possibility of staying with a friend, your boss may just shout you and your friend evening meal using the £100, if nothing else but for being honest.

If he hints at the company then saving £100, just explain somethings came up at your friends and you have to stay at the hotel.

    Agree

Don't forget to claim the mileage from your friend's house too ! That is so dishonest . Would you employ someone like that ?

How about claiming a duck house for your garden, employing your wife as secretary and claim a second mortgage on a home that you rent out to your brother.

Really, some people do ask some incredible questions on here!

    Do it

    Interesting question you ask here

    Easy, man.
What's wrong of employing my wife as a secretary, if one day, i do have my own business?!

My husbands employer allows you to stay in a hotel and claim it in full (up to a certain amount) or to make your own arrangements (stay with friends) and they allow £xx for doing it.

This means the company usually pay out much less than the hotel rate and the employee has a night with mates and a freebie meal/night out. It's a win, win for both.

Can you ask your employer if they offer anything should you stay with friends and cancel the hotel?
