Can i get dell to replace my broken Blu-Ray optical drive for free? (18 months old)

Hi, I have a dell laptop which came with a blu-ray RW optical drive which is now broken. The rest of the laptop works fine put the optical drive is gone (I think the platform has stopped spinning).

Now its 18 months old which means it should be replaced I believe I was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of the laws; sales of goods act, uk, europen or otherwise to quote when I send the request to dell.

I think there is a 2 year minimum for these types of goods but I read conflicting reports and don’t know if I have a legal right to this or if I'm done for.

I would like to have it replaced as these things are around £140 to replace.

    Thanks.

The only way you'll get dell to replace the optical drive is if you are able to prove that the optical drive has stopped working due to mechanical failure/fault. They will say that it has been caused by misuse.

Some retailers/manufacturers will really push your resolve and will say that you will have to take them to court and prove that it was a mechanical fault.

any idea how i would do this?

guess they will tell you where to go

depends which way you go, can't remember the details but pretty sure there is a newish eu law concerning minimum warranties so think that would be the way to claim rather than the SOGA which requires you to prove the manufacturing defect, have a google.

just keep saying it was there fault, design flaw, ive just spent 1 month agrueing over my alienware laptop screen hinge which broke and wasnt down to me, in the end someone came out and fixed it
