Can I rip a Blu-Ray disk's special features onto my pc hard drive and watch them even though my pc is old and cruddy?

    As above.

I bought 'Synecdoche New York' from ebay - its region A - on blu-ray as it actually worked out cheaper than importing the DVD.

I anticipate watching it on my mates PS3 at some point but i'm desperate to watch the extra features. My PC is super old (not got a blu-ray drive) but I wondered if I could somehow get it to rip the extras at a lower AVI standard so I can watch them? I think you can get it to work it out on the fly or something?

Not bothered about quality or how long it takes. Just wondered if it can be done or if anyone has done it.

    Cheers

edit: the main reason I want to watch the extras is because it features a "NFTS/Script Factory Masterclass with Charlie Kaufman" and I was there when it took place - so I want to see if i'm in the crowd so i can tell people "i'm on the DVD".

Cheers guys. I remembered that you could get a PC to work out a HD DVD on the fly so I think I was having a fingers crossed moment for the blu-ray

What software would you use to do this and how ? and would you rip them into what format an mkv?

Last review of BR ripping software I read said that with a top end quad core cpu a movie would take between 24 to 48 hours to rip.
But without a BR drive you've got no way to read the disc.

I doubt it'll play in your mates PS3 either, if it's a UK model it'll be region B so won't play region A titles, sorry...

One of the easiest ways to do this is … One of the easiest ways to do this is byhttp://www.freedvdripper.net/how-to-rip-blu-ray-and-copy-blu-ray-movie-to-computer.htmlor http://www.blurayripper.net/And yeah it will be MKV but you can later convert this to AVI..

Thanks for the info. Will look into this. Rep added

PS: one final question Do you know if it is possible to share a Blu-ray drive from my Laptop through the network so I can access it from my desktop and do this ripping on the desktop ?. The desktop is a lot faster than the laptop.

i think that is possible but i couldn't tell you how lol

You should be able to... just set up a network and share the drive and do it on your pc. The network should be fast otherwise there is no point. if you have gigbit ethernet that would excellent...

Sorry, thinking back on it I think it is a HD DVD rip that a normal pc can work out on the fly. (with a virtual drive or something)

edit: Although - I am a man with more videos than DVDs so frankly any comment by me on technology should probably be ignored. lol

No, how do you expect to read a Blu-ray or HD-DVD without a drive, … No, how do you expect to read a Blu-ray or HD-DVD without a drive, that's like saying you can listen to a casette tape without a player if you hold it against your forhead and hop around in circles .

Are you mad? No way would that work would it?

You have to hop in a figure of eight circles are for high speed dubbing.
