Can I transfer my SKY+ data to a new HD box?

Found 30th Mar 2009
I am looking at getting an upgrade from SKY+ to SKY HD. However, i have quite a lot of this on my hard drive on the box I have the now.

Does anyone know if I can transfer the saved programs from my current SKY+ box to my new HD box when it arrives?

Thanks

You can copy to a new drive for your existing box ie a drive upgrade, but you cannot transfer to a new box ie hardware upgrade.

Thanks - have some REP

Surely getting a new box would be a drive update - in a metter of speaking?

Kind of, but it's a different type of box (with different firmware etc). If you were going from one Sky+ box to another, I'd say it would be possible. But from Sky+ to SkyHD+ no.
You can copy the contents of one drive to another, but this would involve opening up both your boxes, and hence voiding the warranties. ]THIS is the software to do it.
Midlandscomics - cheers

babbabooey - cheers for the link but just not up to that kind of thing and wouldnt want to void a brand new waranty

REP to both
google copy plus utility allows you to do this..

hehe Nightmare aren't they... you wait till the new Programme Guide has been rolled out, should be soon. Amstrad junk if you ask me.

Had no end of probs with a friends.
You wont void the warranty opening it up, if you have problems they just do an on site exchange, they never check

Not exactly filling me with joy folks - was looking forward to my shiny new HD box:?
Its pot luck if you get a dodgy box or not - fingers crossed mine is still ok, and i've only ever had the one. Had it a couple of years now, and upgraded the hard drive myself (and kept previous recordings) using the software I mentioned above.
If you are getting HD you will want to change the hard drive, it was taking upto 12% for some films, now it takes around 1 or 2% with my 1tb drive.

Problem is, your stuck with the one type of box for HD at the moment, where as you had the option of at least 3 SKY+ boxes at one point.

Need Pace to get their fingerout and do their HD box, I may even consider going HD when they do.

I swore after Analogue SKY I would never have another Amstrad Box again!

LOL sorry matey we are Pishing on your campfire a little. SKY HD is nice and you shouldn't be dissapointed if you have the Full SKY Package. Just don't hesitate to get on the phone and give sky some grief the first sign of a Problem (which there may not be), and don't let sky fob you off.

PS check when they install it, make sure they have the right wires in, why they insist on leaving the scarts connected instead of just using HDMI i will never know, I wonder how many people have paid a fortune for HD and are actually watching it through Scart due to the contractors hooking the Scarts up lol

Really? I stand very corrected... I can honestly say I haven't seen any of the pace boxes yet, and I know 6 people with HD all got the naff ones.

Ahh dammit, I will have to investigate now... bloody threads gonna cost me now :-D
LoL I gave up looking into it about that time, I thought SKY had sold what little soul they had left to The Amstrad / Thomson crew... Obviously Thomson went bust but their quality lives on in those 160GB/80GB Freeview PVRs which were diabolically flawed.

Hmmmmm Pace or Samsung....
