    Can Microsoft block a stolen digital code?

    I sold a digital code, the buyer has since raised a case with paypal which after speaking to paypal appears to be related to fraud on the buyers account.
    I wasn't aware that codes and things are not covered under any protection, so i am assuming the buyer will get their refund.
    If i still have the code (Microsoft have confirmed it has been redeemed a couple of days after purchase) is there a way i can have the game blocked as stolen? at least i feel a little better about losing the game and money
    Microsoft suggested going to the retailer and they can sort out a replacement, not sure how well that will go, wonder if they have any power in the matters?
    There must be a way to block the old code from working?

    Never sell digital items on eBay. I had a similar experience and the buyer got their money back, so I phoned up Paypal and they gave me my money back as a one off gesture.

    Did you post the code? I believe, if selling codes, you are better off sending it via email. I don't think paypal cover claims for this type of transaction.

    Nothing digital is covered, don't think gift cards are covered either

    I've had the same issue, paypal will not allow seller protection on "intangible" items, i even sent the item via recorded post and still they wouldn't cover me. Says on there terms. I'll never sell a digital code, even physical card again on ebay.

    send the code if you have it as a physical piece in a tracked envelope then you can prove you sent it and u can make counter claim. this is what was suggested on here before, i havent tried it myself

    I didn't know this until after the claim, I now believe this is what the buyers rely on, people who don't realise until too late. I might as well try what MTC suggests does that link cover digital codes and such then?

    put it down to experience this time but raise it with your bank too. this happened to me aswell but I kept pushing and was covered by debit card purchase protection I'm tsb. not sure if other banks offer the service but they ask for a little proof then refund you.

    PayPal tried to help with the second one but eventually lost out to the other party's bank.
    As for UberPark's suggestion, for me it didn't work. I had initially emailed the code and then at the suggestion of eBay physically sent the code to the confirmed address with registered post. Fired off proof of the receipts, but nothing.....
    There are apparently a couple sales sites that do specialise/cover this kind of thing. Not something I've had to use since this. Don't ask me what they are now, I sadly can't remember.

    I don't even think codes are covered even if sent physically. I'm sure that's what PayPal said when I rang them.
    I will raise it with the police fraud site, I like the thought of messaging the buyer and letting them know this. hopefully scare them into closing the case. hopefully they are young chancers and it may make them think..

    ​yep I was also told of two sites that cover codes.. but I'm not going to bother selling them again. there's always a small group of greedy horrible people that mess it up for others.

    Anything you send it tracked post is covered. Send the code via tracked royal mail. Even if you have to write it yourself on paper. Once it's tracked and signed for, or even refused to be signed for by the buyer contact paypal with the tracking number. Once they have that they will refund your money.
    This happend to me and that's what I did. Got my money back straight away.

    Microsoft will try their best to hide the identity of the account that redeemed the code, if you get the police involved they will have to take action but its really not worth the trouble and headache.

    This is what paypal told me when I had the exact same situation happen to me. They told me to post the code tracked, once it's tracked they would refund me. They did it instantly once tracking was confirmed. Key is to call paypal. Never deal in emails or resolution boxes. It never works. A direct call has always sorted my paypal problems.

    This happened to me. I literally spammed paypal with emails and phonecalls. In the end they refunded me.
