I bought a lg g2 through Gumtree, ota update wasn't working (turns out it's come from Hong kong) so I hooked it to my laptop and used the official lg tools to try to update it to 4.4.2 from jelly bean. It failed somehow and is now in a boot loop / brick. Gutted.

Hopefully just a soft brick.. Can you access the, I want to say bootloader, menu?

I'd try the xda forums before a repair shop.
I'll give it a go for you
BTW a few weeks back I did the same with a g2 and thought I'd spooned it. re run the process using the lg tools again and you should be ok
Hi Jonny.
I've got a Korean version LG G2 and I got a lot of help and advice with various problems from people here. hotukdeals.com/tag…974
Might be something in there to help (hopefully).

Thanks guys really appreciate the replies, I spent a few hours trying to re-flash (?) it with the LG tools to no avail. Plus all efforts to enter download mode or do a hard reset failed, it just keeps restarting amongst other things. Will try again tomorrow.

If you can get to the recovery menu, then wipe the data and cache - then reboot. That often sorts out bootloop options.

you usually have to press something as you switch it on. This usually gets you into either the bootloader or recovery, if you get that far, you can then usually do some magic with your laptop to get the damn thing to reflash or wipe itself.

To get into recovery, with it off. Press and hold power and Vol Down. When you see the LG logo let go for a couple of seconds. Then press and hold them down again. Keep them held until you see the recovery menu.

You might need to try a few times as the timing can be a pain to get right.

If you can get into recovery then you can flash a new rom. As suggested above, try XDA they know EVERYTHING
If all else fails, you can factory reset your device by doing this:

Ensure that you phone is powered off.
Now, press the volume down and power button at the same time for 2 or 3 seconds until the LG logo appears on the display.
Then release the buttons and then press and hold them again.
Keep pressing the buttons until the recovery mode menu will be displayed on your LG G2.

You will now be able to factory reset your device.

I put this on xda:

Hi everyone, my first time on xda so please be patient.

Ive just bought a 32GB D802 from Gumtree Southampton, UK, turns out the seller bought it from Ebay and it was shipped from Hong Kong.

Was working fine but I wanted to update from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 so I could use Chromecast screen cast with it. Was working fine with my T-mobile sim but no fota update was detected so I decided to use the LG website to update. I installed the lg driver and lg support tool. The phone was detected and update about 1.6GB was downloaded but crashed during installation. Retrying the installation got the same results.

Now the phone just boots to the LG screen and sits there with the notification light changing through different colours. I have tried some videos for pressing buttons to get it into a reset mode or download mode I just cant get anywhere.

The only things I can achieve is either a black screen with the notification light flashing red, or if I holdup on volume the blue download manager (?) flashes up and then quickly turns to a screen of text, reads like eg:

portcharge
resetnfo
portcharge
stall get_descriptor 128 6 1006 0 18
fastboot: processing commands
reset
ep1/out fail nfo=40 pg0=f908700
etc
etc

I have the original box with imei, serial number etc.
I could really use a simple step by step solution but all the ones i see involve using download manager but i dont seem to able to get that going.
Help?!
If it's getting the LG logo boot screen the odds are you maybe able to get into it with shell commands (a bit like using dos scripts on a pc) but you'd need to install the Android sdk (software developers kit) and have someone talk you though the right commands to send to the phone.
You can install a custom recovery from the pc and then send a rom to the phone and then reboot it.

Someone on XDA should be able to post you the info, it's not like this doesn't happen to others. Flashing the wrong rom is easy to do!
Have you tried this tool? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370

And the rom for the HK version of the G2 is here; forum.xda-developers.com/sho…134
