Can More Than 1 Xbox 360 Be Connected Through Lan And Not Xbox Live

    Hi Guys
I am in the process of putting plans together for a new business venture and I need to connect around 8 Xbox360s together for game competition but do not want them to go on the internet as i would require 8 x accounts. Does anyone know if what I want to do is possible through a possible a router or switch? Also do the Xbox's require a LAN adaptor or ready to go? If not how much would these be?

    Any help repped - thanks

Xbox 360's have a built in LAN port, no adapter needed.

Well, if the game competition is near Manchester, let me know. =D

Yes you can, ]here is a list of compatible games and how many players they can have. You just need a switch.

SImply connect to a switch and I guess there is a LAN option on the game? or maybe u go through Xbox Live but it only gets through to the LAN? If this is the case then would you need Xbox live account initially?

Games the tournament should have: Halo 3, Call of duty 4/5, Racing games.

    What switch?

As for the xbox live , i suspect the user's would want to game on their own account anyway which would require them to retrieve their gamertag's or bring their own hard drive , which i did

basically all you would need is a 4 port router and 2 hubs , then you can add more hubs as your buiseness/need's grows , or could even have wireless adapters for the 360 (but i suspect they would get nicked ;-) )

may be good idea to get yourself a cash and carry card for all those refreshments , lol i'm starting to think about this in cdepth now :-D

Microsoft has accomplished a lot in the gaming world. There were once the long shot hardware developer who had no chance at competing with Sony and Nintendo. Now, they have a respectable installed base of consumers thanks in part
to the Xbox Live service. While online multiplayer is fun, it doesn't match the experience of a LAN party.

With LAN parties, you don't have to worry about lag, server glitches or loud, annoying children who have no business playing certain games. Setting up a LAN party is easy enough. Gathering the supplies needed to get it working may require a bit of heavy lifting(depending on how heavy tour Television is).

In order to link multiple consoles you will need a crossover cable, or RJ-45 Ethernet cable to connect everything via router. You can use the official Xbox System Link, but any crossover cable will get the job done. Each console needs it's own television set, and a copy of the system link compatible game. Example: Six Xbox 360 consoles = Six TV's = Six copies of Halo 3.

Connect the Ethernet/crossover cable to your 360 console's Ethernet adapter. Do this for all of the 360s you wish to system link. Each end will be connected to a console, which will them have them linked into pairs. After that, connect your Xbox 360s to a router or Ethernet Hub. Turn on the consoles and follow the in game instructions to begin.

That means we have to connect them directly? and use crossover cables??

Any ethernet cable will do, and you dont have to connect them directly.

Oh :O Thought they were called routers?

Strictly routers just move traffic between networks, the boxes at home that we tend to call routers are actually a combination of router, switch, modem and wireless access point. The switch (or hub) is the bit that deals with the stuff that's sent around the current network, and is all you need for lan gaming.

Left 4 dead is an excellent game and the versus mode requires 8 people so ideal for your setup (campaign and, assuming the xbox version has had the update, survival only require 4.)

I'm trying to think of other good multiplayer games but most of the ones I play either aren't on the xbox 360 or have horrible ports (supreme commander). Stuff like Team Fortress 2 won't really work with only 4 players per side. Some sort of strategy game might be worth throwing in though - I've heard Endwar got fairly good reviews on console.

Just use an 8 port switch (NOT a hub as it will compromise peformance), 1 Xbox as host, other 7 as clients.
No cross-over cables, just straight ethernet cables to each box from the switch.

Set each box with a static IP, DNS to host etc. blah, blah, etc.

    Then game away

But you do need 8x copies of the game

Do definately setup silver accounts on all the boxes and have something in place so that they CAN connect to the internet when you say (this allows for XBOX Live updates and game patches to be downloaded - fixing some gitches in games)

Also definately do what Soupy says and use a switch, not a hub, as with more than a couple of machines, you'll end up with data collisions. Collisions = lag = a bad experience for your customers.
