Can of Tuna has a 1/3 less inside

I opened up a John West Tuna can last week and there didn't seem to be much inside. I decided to weigh the amount of drained tuna and it came up as 85g which is third less then the amount there should have been (130g).

Since then I've measured the weight of the last 3 cans I've opened and they've averaged around the 100g which is also still considerably less.

I think it's quite disgusting that they do not provide the quanity advertised on the can and they think they can get away with it

Have any of you noticed it?

You do need to weigh the entire contents, not just the fish, but yes they are still ripping you off. Not much you can do other than have a moan to them about it, or buy a different brand...

    Drained Weight (obviously)

does it state the drained and normal wieght?

i had this with a packet of highland crisps a few years ago. i wrote to the company and they send me a case (8 x 6pk multipacks) for free!!

sometimes a little moan works... - you have nothing to lose!

it's probable that on the can somewhere it states the 'drained' weight - the actual weight on the contents minus liquid and can. I've seen that quite a few times now (and no, I wasn't looking)

    It states on the Can:

    185gDrained Weight 130g

So it seems to be around 20-40g less in each can

    Wow..

I know my mate got a chicken ginsters wrap, and it had absolutely no chicken in it, that was yesterday :-D

Most of these products also show a drained weight on the tin.

I think it's worth mentioning to trading standards.

However, I do suspect you used too much force when draining out the contents

I had this but fortunately I worked alongside the man who dealt with the emails and complaints etc at John West. Each batch is check weighed and tasted time and time again and yes I do know theone poor person who eats it all day every day.

I got a load of free tins and I am sure they will sort you out and if it is an ongoing problem they will do their best to put it right.

Suprisingly John West have very few complaints, so when they do get one they really do sort them out.

maybe the rest fell down the cracks in your mattress

I'd contact the papers, they love story like this.

'Fish lover short to the Tuna 40g'

Last time i had their tuna i bought it when it was four for 2 quid at Tesco and i thought the tuna was of very poor quality, maybe i should complain as well lol

Impossible, as it's just been returned

While this is quite funny, the OP has a point. BUT . . .

They probably weighed the tuna just after it went in the cooker, because there is no way you will get 100% of the moisture out of the tuna after it has been in the can for a lengthy period of time, that is virtually impossible.

What's that got to do with anything?

Tuna will have natural moisture in it i imagine, applying a lot of pressure would add to the lack of weight :w00t:
