why? when the bigwigs like Sony and Samsung stop ripping people off then maybe more people would be inclined to buy from them - there's not always a quality issue buying a cheaper product; especially as most are manufactured in the same factory by the same people! it's only at the stage when the company logo gets stuck on it that the price is decided!
Personally I love my Tescos technika 47 inch TV that I got for £70...beats the Samsung we have in the other room!

if I was buying a 4k tv I would expect it to be no more than 450 for 85 inch and have 10 bit with h d r any more than this I would feel like a clown.

Nothing wrong with that as long as you don't pay less than £100 for the HDMI cable.

My mate bought a 43" 4k TV due to his room being tiny, picture quality is awesome. Think he only paid £350, whats wrong with that?

Should we have a resolution v size calculator? I need to know if I should sell my 1080p 5.5" phone for something a little more 800x480.

Whatever makes you happy it can't be that bad.

    Why?

    I got a 40inch Samsung 4K tv from Richer Sounds for £399

Can't say I saw many cheaper 1080p only models for the same brand and size.
I can't fit anything else on the part of my living room wall where the tv goes.

    Am I clueless?

afraid so 4k on your tv is pointless and of no benefit

    Cheers for the insult.

My living room is a decent size. However, where the corner sofa is position and where the TV is (on the old chimney breast above the log burner) means anything more than 44 inches is probably too big.

I'm confident I've got a good price and couldn't find any decent Smart Samsung / Sony 1080p tvs for a considerable amount less

Why not? It's about viewing distance and each individuals eyesight. I would consider a 40" 4k TV if it is to be used at a close distance.

OP probably wants to stop people buying them so the price drops and then they can move in for a cheap TV.

I honestly think this opinion is rubbish as Narcos 4K looks better than in HD on a 42" Panasonic

Ohhh in that case carry on OP. You're doing a public service.

Yes, total rubbish. I have no idea why anyone would choose a better speced product over a worse one, when they cost the same money

May I add that HDR is utterly pointless too, you would be a moron to fall for such marketing hype, especially on a 10bit TV with very high peak brightness. No one should ever buy one of them under any circumstances. Lets vote with our wallets and let them know than lower resolution TVs using colour standards from 1993 are everything we need now!

Netflix is UHD. It's just got a lower bitrate than a UHD Bluray, hence why it doesn't look as good as one. Same with 1080p too.

Also, a 40" UHD TV is fine at shorter viewing distances. Considering there isn't even much UHD content out there anyway, I doubt anyone will be that bothered. It makes 1080p look a bit nicer though.

If you really want to play the tech spec game, nothing out there is 4K except the screens at your cinema. It's all Ultra HD because 4K is actually 4096 x 2160 whereas UHD is 3840 X 2160.

So, I guess... HAHAHA Ashmac bought an UHD TV and not a 4K one... right? X)

    Looks like a lovely Oscilloscope.
You could rent it to the OP, might pick up the stray radiation frequency filtering through their tinfoil hat.

Screen size and resolution is all relative to viewing distance.
The closer the screen, the more likely you will see the 'pixels'.
So a 40" 4k TV viewed from say 10' is more than reasonable.
Whereas a 40" 4k TV viewed from 15'-18' away would be a waste, 1080p would be more than adequate.

Pity. I hear that's 5 - 10 inches smaller than recommend for proper 4k gaming.

People are free to buy whatever TVs they want, even if they have no idea what they are buying...be it a branded 43" 4K TV for £400 or a nasty 55" Polaroid from Asda

I'm personally hoping that they will start producing some cheap 30"-32" 4k TVs so that I can use one principally as a PC monitor but with the option of using it as a TV as well if I so desire. Horses for courses, as they say.

That TV is worth £10,000 in good condition to a collector. If you got that then your minted

When I play the xbox the kids and myself pull the Sofa in front of the TV so I'm about 1 meter away, I do want a 4K TV but would never consider anything over 50" as I hate massive TV's my TV currently is 43"..

I would really only want 4K for gaming with HDR, so going to be sat pretty close when i use it, Normally I'm sat about 5 meters away from my TV, but I can imagine the clarity would still be noticeable? might be wrong though.
