Can someone please tell me if this is what it says it is?

I'm after a cheap and cheerful freeview hd box so Mr Froot can watch the motor racing in stunning High Definition. If indeed it is going to be broadcast in such. A quick google brought this up, but it just seems too good to be true, I thought these things were nearer £100. It says HD, but can someone please just confirm it definitely is? I've heard of so many listings where the header says one thing, then in the small print it's something else... Thank you muchly for reading.

Just make sure you can receive freeview HD before investing in any kit. Many believe / are told they can when in reality they cannot. I supposedly can according to everywhere but mu HD box wouldn't pick up HD and I live in between 2 giant masts.

Oh, how can I find out?

Perhaps they are able to cut down on the cost because the 'recording' part is done using USB via pen drive (or whatever) rather than a built in HDD.

Do you know I am not sure, according to every bit of information I looked at my region was HD freeview but my box picked up hardly anything one day then nothing at all the next. When I googled I found many people with the same problem.

Try googling 'HD freeview in *******' but look for places like AVforum replies rather than freeview sites which may tell you you can get it when you cannot.

Found a BBC online postcode checker thing, says I can't get it until August! Thanks for letting me know, now I just have to tell the other half...

Yeah it doesn't have a hard drive and only a single tuner (as far as I can make out) which means it will only record one programme at a time.

I don't think the recording function is something we'd use... we've not recorded anything for about ten years! But, even though the question is now moot, it IS a HD receiver box thingy?

HD freeview also means you have to check your aerial and cables. Purchased a new Humax HD and I have had to replace aerial even though it worked fine on the old box, and I stay in an area with good reception.
Screw fix have a decent one reduced to £19.99
