Can you buy tv shows from itunes US here in the UK? Will Apple block your account? Cheers. :)

Looking to buy a tv series but it's only available on the US iTunes store...

you cannot, unless you have a payment method linked to a US postal address. your new account would have to be linked to this address as well, so you'd have two accounts, one UK, one US.

it *may* be possible to buy US itunes vouchers, and use that as a payment method, but I haven't personally tried it yet. Your account will be locked unless you also mask your IP address to look like you are in the US, and I'd also recommend opening a whole new account to prevent the risking of your UK account being locked.

ps: in this instance, torrent sites are your friend

I've just done some reading up on it and it seems like it could be a lot of hassle when trying to watch them on Apple TV. Think I might just buy the dvds from Amazon.com. Thanks for your help.

If I could find a torrent site that would have them, it would be great. Haven't done it in a while so not sure what the "safe" sites are now.

That's what I do sometimes actually. My folks live in the US and I got my dad's account locked when using it over here to watch US shows. he wasn't very happy.

BTW i have been successful at using Amazon US Instant Video - I did it by buying Amazon US vouchers, then masking my IP address. This way, you don't need to link your payment method to a US address. I assume a similar method could work for itunes, you could try it for a single episode perhaps?

Wow this is spooky...I just found them on Amazon US Instant Video and was about to ask in here again. X)

How does it work with Amazon US? The series I want is cheaper there. Do I have to use their dedicated player to watch them?

it's cheaper to stream, they call it 'rental' i believe, but i think you can pay more and download the episode. i just streamed as i tend to only watch shows once.

oh yeah, you should create a new amazon us account just to be on the safeside. you can google a fake US address. e.g 100 Post Street NY or something if an address is required.

Just googled it and it says that apparently Amazon have changed the rules with instant video and it requires a credit card now. There's always something...and they wonder why people torrent.

It's Rules of Engagement. We only got season 1 here on dvd and in America, they only got up to season 6 and the final season is download exclusive.

It's a real pain to get around it.

haha, that's fitting! you need to work for the CIA/FBI to sneak around the digital rights management laws.

You literally can't make it up. Never seen a tv series treated like it. I think my only other option left is to try to torrent it. Sony really screwed the releases up.

No worries. Your comment still makes sense anyway. X)

hahahha, there's a couple of US shows I want to watch at the mo, but itunes/play have them priced so steep and they won't be released on DVD for another 6 months. Ethically, i don't like pirating, but when they price the shows this steep for digital, meaning I can't resell on ebay, my conscious speaks less loudly

To be honest, I haven't used torrents for a couple of years now and went back to buying my films/series again. This just might send me back the other way now. Well, for TV shows at least.

Knowing my luck, I won't find a site with the show. X)

    i'll dm you a site

You can buy a hulu gift subscription. Then Use an app to make it look like you have a us IP address.

Sorry, there is basically a lot of rubbish in this thread. iTunes isn't based on your current location and you don't need to mask your IP address at all to use the service abroad. They don't "lock" your account for trying to use iTunes on a device abroad, can you imagine how much hassle business and holiday makers would have in trying to use their iPhones etc whilst away!

People are correct you need a bonafide U.S address though, which isn't hard to google. Even if it's a local mechanics firm or something somewhere, not hard. Other than that just go to add a free app on iTunes to start with and choose none as payment option, then top up with U.S vouchers as you go. I use both U.S and UK accounts regularly on both iPad mini Retina and Apple TV.
