Can You Get A Swiss Army Knife... Without The Knife In It?

23
Found 24th Sep 2014
Hi All,

I'm after a new leatherman or pen knife… But I use the term “knife” loosely – as I'm looking for one without a knife in it.

I just almost want a multi tool, but even a search for “Multi Tools” will have a blade – or a saw – or something menacing on it.

Is it a crime to carry a swiss army knife nowadays?

That’s my worry, I don’t want to get into trouble for carrying a travel-screwdriver-and-pliers-in-one. (which is essentially what I need it for)

You're fine as long as it less than a folding blade 3 inches long. As long as you're not flinging it around it's fine.

I suppose legality is only 90% of the query.

I just dont want to carry a blade of any length.
After a while searching prior to popping this thread, I did see the Swiss Tech, but they fold up ugly.

I think id prefer something Leatherman/Swiss Army like.

So you're after a model space ship? Looks cool but yeah, would rip your pocket open pretty quickly.
Would it be easier to get a Swiss Army knife and remove the knife...?
Don't want to be pedantic but the legal length is 3.75 inches, locking knives are illegal completely. Police would take a dim view of anyone carrying a bladed article, unless you have a phemoninally good reason.

- my bad it is 3 inches, got mixed up with 76mm
Hi Bonjour,

You may have mis-read, im looking for something without the blade, locking or not.

Police *would* take a dim view to pretty much any blade - but as im a 31 year old financial analyst, Im not in much fear of getting frisked when I next go into town

I just dont want to carry a knife of any sort, but would find a tool like this handy for the car or when im out with my family on treks/walks etc.

PS Mermoo... *Can* you remove the blade from a swiss army knife? Surely the remaining tools would just move around/jangle?
Boom! This is what I need... but not available

Leatherman Knifeless 'Fuse'
amazon.co.uk/Lea…O3C
...Or the Leatherman 'Wave' which I can get for £70

Just walk into any shop and ask for a swiss army.

A quick Google search threw this up:

Sorry about the above post Silhouette, I have just read through your comments.

I'm curious to know why you are so against having a blade in a Swiss Army Knife/multi tool (children?).

If you try to remove the blade attachment completely it will cause the other attachments to be loose fail

My suggestion if you prefer a "swiss army type knife" but without the blade would be to saw off the blade part and file down any sharp edges or use an angle grinder

What does the thing on the right look like? It looks like a sheathed knife...

I think you will find it has no knife. That is why you are able to fly with it, because it has no blade. If you click on the customer reviews it clearly states that there is no blade.

Get yourself a wallet ninja

I posted a deal for that as they are £4.99 on eBay (better than FireBox £9 and GroupOn £7)

But it got removed because he wasnt a power seller.

Shame really. It was buy 4 get 1 free too, so I bought a box load as they'll make good stocking fillers

I think they look pretty cool,I might get one to keep at work as I'm always needing wee tools to adjust wheelchairs
