CANCEL YOUR BT CONTRACT WITHOUT ANY PENALTY!!!

You can now cancel your BT landline contract for free. According to section 48 of BT's Ts&Cs: productsandservices.bt.com/con…408 "If we have made a change which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end your agreement early, unless the Tariff Guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end the agreement within 10 days."

If you visit productsandservices.bt.com/con…760 and click on the phone tab, you will be able to see that BT 'adjusted' their prices. What this effectively means is that BT put up (or down in certain cases) their prices. According to Section 48 of their Ts&Cs you can claim that the change resulted in you being materially disadvantaged and you can cancel your contract free of charge.

Spoke to the chairman's office at BT today and they confirmed. Remember you have 10 days from the day you learn about the changes to cancel your contract.

as for broadband, you can cancel it only if you are on 'BT Total Broadband Option 1' and have signed up between 02/09/2009 and 31/12/2010.

You need to have a BT line to have BT Broadband, so technically the change affected you. BT cannot provide broadband without BT Line so they would have to cancel both. So if you don't mind cancelling both you should be okay.
