Canceling a Virgin Media contract

Hi there, I need to cancel my VM contract as I am leaving the UK. I called them this afternoon to tell them that i was leaving. The agent told me that i will have still to pay the remaining 7 months as I am under contract. I had a little bit of an argument telling her that obviously I did not know at the time of taking the contract that I will be leaving and that surely after more than 20 years with VM they could show some sign of goodwill, but the discussion did not get too well. Any idea what I should do, I really don't want to pay the full remaining amount if possible. Thanks in advance
