Cancelled my Orange contract, now need to unlock my phone!

I cancelled my contract with Orange early, based on the changes to their pricing, which is great since I got out of an 18 month contract after 4 months and got a 'free' phone.

I've now signed up with O2 and want to use the Nokia 5800 handset I got from Orange with the 02 contract, but when I put the SIM in the phone it just says 'sim card not valid' which I assume means the phone is locked.

I've found a few sites where you can get unlock codes based on your IMEI code but I've not seen any offering anything for the 5800. Is it right that I can get the code from Orange themselves? It's been ages since I've had to unlock a phone so I'm a bit out of the loop!

    Any help appreciated, thanks

Am looking for the same for my HTC Touch Diamond, as will be selling it on!

Looked on some sites, they were charging around £20 to unlock. Found a couple that unlocked the HTC for £3.99, and went through that process, only to have a refund sent to me 24 hours later because they could not do it!! Why say they can for my make and and model when they cant???

Any help appreciated on good unlocking sites!

Thats the option I went with after getting no joy here, £20 seems a bit steep and 7 - 10 days to email me the code is puzzling, but it means I can unlock it so I guess thats the price I pay.

I have to agree the only way I could get my 5800 unlocked was through Orange.

Did you cancel due to new call charges and what are you getting next in way of sim card

Yeah I just used the bitterwallet guide and gave the stock answers to their protests, quite easy really!

I've signed up with 02 via ]mobiles.co.uk and got £40 quidco, £240 instant cashback from mobiles.co.uk and a w580i which I'm going to stick on ebay - which is why I'll not grumble over £20 to unlock the 5800! Pretty pleased Orange changed their prices! :-D

It took me a few attempts (6) but eventually got through to a very helpful woman who cancelled and provided a pac for me.

The £240 Cashback is on a 2 year contract not so sure I would want a 2 year contract but then a free PS3 is quite tempting

PUK = Personal Unblocking Key, used if you enter a incorrect security PIN and your phone locks
PAC = Porting Authorisation Code which is a code allowing you to transfer your number from one mobile network to another, so if you cancel with Orange and change to another provider you can keep your number
